I think it's a waiting game right now. Who will make a move first. If 100.5 changes first, then no expensive changes are necessary at 92.9. Only a few tweaks. If 92.9 makes a move first, 100.5 can make a few tweaks. If 105.3 becomes WGST AM and FM, then you can try a Spanish language format at 100.5 and 92.9 and 96.1 make a few tweaks for the Rock 100.5 listeners. It's all about who makes the first move and no one wants to be first.
As for news, it's my experience you need talk shows for it to work. This isn't NYC or LA or DC and WSB is still a factor along with the iPhone. If you select news, you are going up against WSB, WABE and WGST. If a listener cares about the news and has a radio, the listener wants to talk about it. They don't want what they can read or watch on their phone, see on TV or watch on their computer or tablet read to them. This is a young market with a lot of high tech gadgets offering news. To do news right would require spending money on staff until the profit margin is too slim and I'm guessing the numbers would remain low with older listeners.
