Dave-FM PD Let Go

CBS launched an all news station in Washington DC and they do not have the rights to CBS radio news but they are not doing that here. Why would Cumulus prevent 92.9 from going sports, its possible that 680 could end up CBS sports radio 24/7 and CBS/Cumulus makes some side deal to move the Fan to 92.9. Not saying likely but CBS known for its sports FM stations and with a deal with cumulus would have some play by play and established talk shows.

Forget it Rick,, one thing this town does NOT need is another sports station.

You're correct. Putting the CBS Sports Network on 680 the Fan would in no way prevent 92.9 from going All Sports if that's what they wanted to do. A lot of AM stations seem to be taking the CBS Sports programming.

top 40 is possible, oldies just dumped in Boston to go against Kiss. A real top 40 unlike Q is possible, but so is African American Talk Radio, Oldies like WCBS maybe. cBS loves Top 40 and is having success

Q100 is getting worse, too! Aside from playing the hell outta Matchbox 20, all those strange older titles that they were playing only during middays....(like, Destiny's Child - "Jumpin Jumpin", Linkin Park - "In The End" and DHT - "Listen To Your Heart" (AC Version).......Well, they're now playing these songs well into the late afternoon as well overnights. I've also noticed that they're starting to play 2, maybe 3 songs in a row that are more than a year old. So....just sayin, if Q100 continues like this...they could very well be reverting back the HOT-AC sound they were back in 2009!

If CBS were going to flip formats, they'd be getting rid of more staff than just the PD - no?

This just sounds like they want to find someone else that can successfully program a Triple A station (or maybe a AAA/Alternative hybrid, or AAA/Hot AC hybrid)

And WTF at everyone on this board thinking Triple A is some kind of an illegitimate format - tell that to the people in Chicago, Minneapolis, Denver,...etc.

People that listen to Triple A don't listen to it because the music is upbeat - they listen to it because the music is intelligent

Also, I'm not sure CBS would start up one of their Amp radio CHR's (which lean Rhythmic) in the same market that they own a huge Urban station in

I don't think AAA is illegitimate, I somewhat enjoy it - but I do think it's a more progressive format (like the markets you mentioned) - is Atlanta that much of a "progressive" city to support such a format? I know it can be a difficult format in a lot of markets, especially in the south

That's the thing though - it was progressive enough last year to support share numbers in the 4's and 5's - I tend to agree that letting Star jump on progressive stuff earlier was Dave's biggest mistake

The new PD (if there is one) needs to understand that Dave needs to be the station people come to first for cutting-edge new music - not the station people flip to when they want to hear lots of old album cuts and there's nothing else on

Take advantage of the fact that barely anyone can tune in 99X properly, and be the station breaking new music from the Black Keys, Of Monsters And Men, Imagine Dragons, Fun, Gotye, Neon Trees, Ed Sheeran, Metric, Grouplove, etc.

Cities 97 in Minneapolis is by far the most successful AAA in the country, and they'll throw in John Mayer, One Republic, Train, and Jason Mraz right in with all the Indie/Alternative stuff

To those who keep suggesting "Bring back Z-93"!!....When stations die they die for a reason. You're getting too caught up in the nostalgia of Z-93 and forgetting that it ran its course. Cumulus reacted to all the "Bring back 99X" cries and look where it got them. Plus, Z-93 is actually alive and kicking in Atlanta, but it's called the River.

I could see them going for a JACK format..........which would be a bit better than what they
have now.

CBS has a few Jacks in Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Dallas. But as someone mentioned about the Boston station going CHR yesterday, I wouldn't be surprised if they went in that direction.

I would be surprised if CBS went after Q100. Legally on paper (I am sure there are top dollar lawyers to insure this) Cumulus and CBS are competitors, but with the CBS Sports deal I am sure neither Cumulus or CBS will go after each other's "cash cows". The Boston move is directed at Clear channel. It would not surprise me if Cumulus does not end up with the CBS Radio properties with in 10 years, if Cumulus gets the Citadel debt paid down. IMHO The only issue will be to find operators that will able to handle the divestment required to stay under market caps. I doubt the FCC would allow a "trust" of clusters in the top 20 markets.

To me this is the absolute WORST radio station I have ever heard. It sounds like a really bad 200 watt college station...Mara Davis loves to hear her gravelly voice too....

Is there a reason you keep posting this over and over and over...? Do you like Alternative Rock? If not, who cares what you think of the station ::)

I believe the AAA format hurts alternative stations because now the alternative stations limit their artist and skew away from the alt artist that AAA stations play. Would like to see Dave go alternative and actually expand the playlist further than what 99x plays. If not, then bring oldies to make the 80% on this board happy and kill Rock and switch it to alternative. I think you can maintain that "intelligent" listener population while adding more people when adding some of the mainstream alternative artists. $$$$$

Talk, urban or sports would be a disaster and a bore. CHR could work as long as it stands out from Q.

Some love her, some hate her. I'm like here comes a really long speach.......and I turn the dial.
