It was announced this morning that WZGC-FM/92.9 will flip to All-News on May 1. WPB1999 has been named News Director of the operation.
CBS Radio President Dan Mason commented, "We are very excited to bring All-News to the Atlanta market. It's a format that's been sorely missing from the Atlanta radio dial for a long time. And we were very fortunate to lure WPB1999. He has a depth of experience in the format, having been an intern at WINS in New York 30 years ago."
Posters on the Atlanta Radio-Info board had mixed reaction to the announcement. One regular poster, Gregg75, said, "While I'm glad that CBS Radio recognized the need for change, I feel that the market has much more of a need for a station that plays the 80's."
Vaulted voice professional Jeff Laurence, who sometimes posts on the Atlanta board, commented, "CBS Radio should be congratulated for bringing this exciting format to Atlanta. However, my favorite station will remain WGUN."
