Dave Huddleston to leave FOX29 WTXF

Yeah, I have a comment..."yay". I never was a big fan of the guy. When was the last time you saw him out of the studio, on the street doing an indepth report? I don't think the guy is big market material personally. Anyone can read a prompter. Just my opinion folks. Nothing personal.

The main rumor at the time of hiring was that Dave Huddleston was brought on just because management wanted a black anchor. Too bad they didn't pick one with any talent, like the other stations in town have.

The other rumor was that Dawn Stensland didn't want someone in the other chair who would be more talented than her, so she would be the main focus. She got half her wish.

Horray! I have been waiting for this day for six years.

I could never understand how someone with a speach impediment could be hired as a major market anchor...other than to fill a racial quota system. He always sounded so stupid.

Maybe 29 can bring back Rich Noonan, the guy who got screwed out of a job when 29 decided that they had to hire someone new based on race, not talent. I believe Noonan picked up a win in a lawsuit over the deal, too.

Nice to see Joyce Evans who reported the death of "High Light" was given a multi-year deal. Surprised Huddleston wasn't given the same vote of confidence. The less said about helium voice Bolaris and his stumble bumble, non understandable alleged weather forecasts the better. Anyone can go online and get accurate weather info in ten seconds or less. Why put up with this kind of nonsense?
Oh well. Viewers get what they deserve by continuing to watch this kind of garbage.

Don't get me started on Channel 10's pile of dog crap.

She actuallly pronounced Hy's name that way? Geez!

I never cared for Huddleston, and always assumed he was hired because he was black. As for Bolaris, helium voice about describes him! I could not believe they dumped Rob Guarino for this guy.

I've been watching 29's news less and less.

not sure if joyce is originally from this area , or not ... if she's not , i understand the "high light" instead of hy lit thing . joyce never ever bothered me , at all . dave huddleston ? cannot wait until he's gone !!!

Even if she is not from this area, she has worked in the market long enough to know who he is.

It's a common mistake, but her editor should have caught it, or she should have checked if uncertain.

I remember an interview with Hy's nemesis Jerry Blavat a couple years ago on Sirius, where he referred to the "TACK-uh-knee" neighborhood of Philadelphia, and he had even less excuse to get it wrong than she had to get Hyski's name wrong.

I'm almost surprised people here didn't march in protest that the news director didn't drive in and fire her live on the air for a mistaken name. Anyone consider the possibility that it was discussed with her after the broadcast?

Talk about blowing things waaaaaay out of proportion.

Blowing things out of proportion. Are you kidding me?

You're really excusing someone pretending to be a TV newscaster from a glaring error? I realize from spot listening to radio and TV that there's no such thing as quality control anymore, but to excuse carelessness and downright stupidity is the root cause of the problem.

Okay. Saying "High Light" isn't the end of the world, but it does point out that alledged newscasters, editors, producers and what passes for news directors don't have a clue, let alone any pride in the sloppy product they continue to put out.

Viewers have been trained over the years to expect nothing and that's exactly what they get.

My second sentence pointed out that none of us know if the error was something discussed off-air, say, for instance, as part of an annual review or something similar.

I'd like to meet the person who has made no errors in their work. Seriously.

God knows I wouldn't want every single thing I do in my job to be open to public review because, being human, mistakes happen. It's not the end of the world. Sometimes mistakes happen, and they're not all signs of some horrid lack of quality--sometimes they're nothing more than a slip up.

No question mistakes happen. Also no question that it shouldn't be a given that everyone is expected to be perfect all the time. The problem I have is that mistakes are taken for granted or just laughed off. I can't begin to list all of the mispronunciations on local alledged news. There are reasons for mistakes but no reasons for CONSTANT mistakes.

Newspeople on TV and radio are held to higher standards..and they should be. When someone reaches that level, they are supposed to be a cut above. News isn't supposed to be a comedy of errors.

I'm not a constant watcher or listener but almost everytime I watch or listen, no matter how briefly, it's the same old carelessness. No one is held to standards and as always, I feel the blame lies with the viewer and listener. The more global communications becomes, the dumber the world population.
