Exactly. WYAY was never extremely stable in its musical focus. It was a mess musically for a lot of its life after True Oldies. CBS knows the format in a big market way better than Citadel or Cumulus did. Can't forget KLUV/Dallas, KOOL/Phoenix, WRBQ/Tampa, WOCL/Orlando...they know what they're doing. As far as I know, all of CBS's classic hits stations are doing well and near the top of their markets.RadioGuy2004 said:

Don't forget about WOGL in Philly. That's the station I listened too after Cool 105.7 flipped to spanish and 94.9 HD-2 flipped to country.
Clear Channel also has some very good Classic Hits stations that do really well throughout the country such as WMJI in Cleveland.
What Atlanta needs are better PD's then the same one's that get shuffled from one station to another.

92.9 is a C1 signal.

IMO, Chris Williams at Project 9-6-1 is probably one of the best PD's in Atlanta. He provides great imaging for the station that actually defines a active rock format. If you go to his website, chris.fm, you can tell he's very passionate for any station he puts his work into. He always try's his bet to reach out and interact with the listeners. If you see their Facebook page, it has 100,000 likes. Just behind V103, it has the second most likes out of any other station in Atlanta and many other stations nationwide.
One thing I want to point out. While 92.9 may have a more central location, 106.7 has a nice height and awesome coverage. With the exception of some Alabama counties, I think 106.7 covers Atlanta metro perfectly fine. Considering 106.7 tower is located northeast of the city, the fact the signal reaches Macon while 92.9 (located in the city) does not, leads me to think 106.7 may cover the metro and beyond better. Even Carrollton/Bremen area receives 106.7 at a pretty good level. If the pop leaning classic hits did not work on 106.7, I highly doubt it will work on 92.9. I think 92.9 needs to stick with a rebranding of z93 (deep classic rock or CHR) or go Alternative.
WYAY has the tallest antenna in the metro (the Fish Stick), slightly edging out the only other full class C, WSRV. WSRV does have an edge with being in the foothills, with a higher height above sea level, looking "downhill", as well as nearly a full 100k of power, vs. 77K for WYAY.
WYAY is co-located with WFSH (same height), but WFSH is only a class C1 at about 1/3 the power of WYAY. WSBB is co-located with WSRV but lower on the tower by about 50 meters and less than half the power, also class C1.
Both WYAY and WSRV seem to cover about the same square mileage, with WYAY having an edge in metro population coverage with having its tower further south (Loganville vs. Chateau Elan).

I think CBS is trying to get out of the Alternative format. Yes, KROQ is doing very well, but not so much for the rest. They've recently blown up stations in WPB and Cleveland, despite the fact the Cleveland one did well in the books and paid for 0 jocks. Live 105/SF is fighting for it's life and HFS/Baltimore is merely on a translator. If they were to put up any new Alt-rockers, they won't put one on Dave's stick.
Classic Hits didn't work on 106.7 because it wasn't properly programmed. Aside from last summer and when they ran TOC, the programming and music was a mess. It was obvious Cumulus wanted it to die/planned to kill it after they took it over.acheron82 said:

AGH got around a 3 last summer when they started playing more 80s. When Cumulus took over in the fall and started going back more in to the 60s and dropping a lot of the 80s is when they started to slip. It sounded like a mess and never really recovered. Not sure about their numbers as TOC.
I think most everything about 92.9 is speculation, but I have a tough time seeing CBS hanging on to a station that's just getting a little over a 1 share.
