Dave Koz Exits Smooth Jazz Network as Personality

I noticed that Allen Kepler has replaced Dave Koz on the Smooth Jazz Network (and Smooth AC Network which mirrors same talent) as Afternoon Drive host. Counting his weekend shows on the network, he is on the air (shift or specialty show) for 7 days a week now. Is this too much for any jock no matter how good they are? Dropping Dave Koz (or Koz dropping the network) is significant as Dave was one of the main draws to being an affiliate....and was part of the initial launch along with Ramsey Lewis.

Allen Kepler *IS* the Smooth AC (nee Smooth Jazz) Network.

Allen Kepler *IS* Broadcast Architecture (what's left of it).

Allen Kepler *IS* America's most beloved radio personality.

OK, two out of three ain't bad.

With no competition, I don't suppose it really matters who stays and who goes on the BA radio networks.

Would love to see the music and the talent on KOAZ, be turn into a network that could be carried by other stations across the nation, kinda like Jones was. ;)

Sorry about the double post, my friends. ;D I noticed Norman Brown and Paul Hardcastle bios are off the Smooth Jazz Network site as well. Did they leave too? With the personalities they have left, they are going to have to log in some long hours.

@JazzCat: I noticed this a few weeks back - I'm assuming they'll look for a few more personalities and that the current schedule is temporary (Maria Lopez is on from 7 PM - 6 AM the next day during the week and 9PM - 8AM on weekends).

@wsbzjazzkat: Not sure why Norman Brown, Paul Hardcastle and Dave Koz left - maybe they had contracts and they expired. I'm assuming that they simply had to focus on the music end of their careers a bit more. Too bad though - I really liked them on the SJ network, Dave Koz has always been good but I especially liked Norman Brown and Paul Hardcastle on the weekends.

No business eliminates employees they consider an integral part of their success unless: they are doing poorly financially and have to cut costs, or consider those employees to be overpaid.

I'd guess it's a lack of adequate revenues at BA, which is unfortunate. After all, for all practical purposes we're into the 4th year of a historic recession for most of us.

Radio, whether terrestrial or a streaming station or network is no different than any business in this regard.

Oh, I agree with the rest of you guys: I loved hearing Dave, Norman, and Paul on the BA SJN. And, I'm not generally a lover of air personalities.
