Dave O'Brien Not to Return?

Joe Castiglione gave Dave O'Brien an interesting send-off last night. The latter informed listeners that he would be calling the remainder of the games this season for ESPN International. Castiglione thanked O'Brien for this season, but neither made any mention of next season or ever hearing O'Brien in the Red Sox radio booth again. Should we read anything into it?

from what I've heard he should be back--and that Geffner's role will be diminished--next year

From Boston Sports media/Scott's Shots, as relayed by CantStopTheBleeding.com:
"Shots has good news for the Geffner gadflies, as a source familiar with the specifics of Dave O’Brien’s contract has confirmed that “Obie” will be in the Sox radio booth for at least 135 games next season. The source also verified that stalwart Joe Castiglione will be returning and that Geffner’s role will be either greatly reduced or non-existent."

as I said on another thread, it's too bad Geffner will be one of the voices, especially since WEEI synced it up nearly perfectly and I was able to listen to their audio during the end of the game yesterday

Obrien really gets on my nerves.....calling a curveball a yakker, or the way he puts an sh sound on everything "shwing and a mish" or the laziness in his voice when pronouncing mike lowell's name "mike lull"....I love d o'b on tv, but to me he doesn't translate to redsox radio...but to each their own.

It seems to me that they may keep Geffner on as a field reporter type, someone on or near the field after games to get interviews for the post game.

and, if that doesn't work out, maybe he can be the guy who gets the foul balls and picks up the bats. :D
