Dave Pratt in the Morning...OUT

Rumor has it that as of this morning:

The entire crew of "Dave Pratt in the Morning", along with Stacey Brooks, Shappy and Duelly are all out at KMLE Country 108.

I heard the same rumor. When I checked the web page during Dave's shift, he was still on the web page. Now, of course, he is gone.

Good luck, Dave. It's been one hell of a ride up and down the dial! Thanks for the wonderful years of entertainment!

Unlikely that Tim & Willy will show up at KMLE. Scott Kramer

Yes Pratt and crew are out. The greatest tragedy is letting Stu Evans go. There is not a more professional jock on the air ANYWHERE than Stu. Larry Daniels once referred to Stu as the most consistent, professional on air person anywhere in the country. With the opening in mornings does leave one to wonder if Tim and Willy are going to be back. It would only make sense, but with KMLE's great heritage I would have to think that some of the famous names from the past might be coming back. Names like Cary Rolf, KMLE's first music director. Cary, like Gwen Foster is known and respected in country radio as being a trend setter. Shawn Holly, former weekender, nights, Promotions Director and PD of KMLE. Shawn's incredibly deep and succulent tones at night would increase your female cume in a book, especially when he read the tag, "bottled by the good guys at Kalil". Ron Green... there's a name that hasn't been hear in a while. Ron did weekends at KMLE under Bob Glasco's direction and into Alan Sledge. Ron could just look at you and you would run out of the studio in fear. Guy Williams, aka Charlie Martinez has spent a lifetime working overnights on KNIX and KMLE. Aside from being a trusted overnight friend he looked exactly like Freddy Fender. Jim West, one of the very first voices ever heard on KMLE when they signed on would be on the air full time at KMLE in a heart beat. There was Jimmy Whittle, a man blessed with a very large understanding of how to relate one to one with his listener and was slotted for middays at KMLE for some time. Amy Klinger, simply known on the air as Klinger could do music logs between the records better than anyone. There was Dave McMinn, currently at KNIX as a sales God but worked production with Steve Wood at KMLE and wound up on the air. He was a true Shaman of creativity when Sales Manager Paul Boyd wasn't bogging him down in with tags. Jeff Daniels, a name that invokes images bizarre sound effects laid down over the beats of commercials. We could even get Taylor and the Bear to do weekend fill-ins. If you had JD Freeman as GM and Alan Sledge back as PD, like would be perfect.

You see, KMLE as a great heritage and with these changes I thought it would be nice to hear some great familiar names from the past. Getting all these great talents who were part of KMLE when they first beat KNIX would be awesome. Yes the staff would have to work for less money but as the station became strong the staff would equally share in it's profits just like in the old days. Now KMLE is being run by two very competent and experienced people in Gwen and Jeff but imagine what it would be like if you could turn the clock back and create radio the way it was meant to be. That might be fun.

So now KNIX's Ben & Matt are the "Valleys longest running country morning show"...

The CBS suits have allowed Stu Evans to post a "thanks and goodbye"
message on the KMLE website (as they've done with Camelback Jack
on the KOOL site).

Will they show Dave Pratt a similar courtesy in the next few days?

YIKES! Does this mean Bev & Phil at KEZ are next?

It truly is amazing how many high profile talent have been let go in this market. Yes I know everyone is worried about PPM but there are going to be no personalities to listen to in the market. I really can not believe these big corporations really feel that all we want is music on the radio and nothing else. They have destroyed phoenix radio one host at atime over the last few months. I feel sick

Have you checked the economy lately? These high paid jocks that can't deliver R.O.I. aren't part of the picture anymore. Take a look at Radio and Records website. They have a section DEDICATED to all of the pros on the loose because of this sh!tty economy.

Aside from that, stations from coast to coast are indeed preparing for PPM. Look at the markets that it is already being utilized; Chicago, Houston, New York, LA, etc. The stations playing more music are winning.

Why would I want to tune into radio just for music. Why not sync my IPod before I leave for the day and update my podcasts and there you go, you have all the music you want and the shows you really want to listen to. With all the commercials the same ol music over and over again, why would you tune into the radio. Its a sad state for radio.

Not unless they've lowered their asking price by quite a bit.

Considering the moves CBS has made lately, I wouldn't expect them to replace Pratt with another high-dollar morning show.

PPM, aka "the new, foolproof radio research tool," may drive the final nail in terrestrial radio's coffin.

Of course personalities are polarizing. That's true in one's own life as well as well. But personality wins. Look to TV if you don't believe it...O'Relliy, Oprah, Ellen, Regis, Barbra, Keith, Rachel, Shawn, Jay, Dave, and on and on.

Removing personalities from radio makes it merely a music delivery device. And one's mp3 player kicks ass on commercials every time.

That really blows

I believe CBS really goofed, and sunk to a whole new low.

The AZCentral article mentioned that Pratt was contracted with the station for 2 more years still... So does that mean they have to pay out the contract, or do contracts usually have a buy out built into them that is less?

And as for Tim & Willy, I would think with the way things are in radio and the economy right now, I bet their asking price has gone down a bit.

The KOOL morning show page is still there as of 9:25am, in fact,
in Tom and Maria's blog today they infer it's vacation time--and
they'll "be back next year":

We can only hope so, based on recent events. ::) Not that I'll care until
their KESZ clone goes away on Dec. 26, but who's going to be doing the
KOOL morning show in the interim?

Similar turmoil at the CheapBS (that's the new corporate name) cluster
in DFW, where the KLUV morning show did a similar scenario--on the air:
