Dave Pratt Not on into My 103.9

Just read on facebook that beginning tomorrow Dave Pratt is back to online only and no more connection with My 103.9. I wonder what happened? Oh and I see on their website Monti (whoever that may be) is starting Monday at 10am.

It is obvious. Dave Pratt's show was simply too awesome to be contained by the pitiful signal provided by a terrestrial radio station. The paltry few hundred thousand listeners in the Phoenix metro area is not worth the time of Mr. Pratt, who has literally hundreds of people tuning in to his online show.

Re: Dave was innocent!

...he wasn't operating w/ a .08

As for that website...he could swallow 8 gallons of mouth wash and he wouldn't blow a .0000000000000001

The MOR Furniture sign spinner reaches more people than Coronado Dave

That's all I have...don't forget to tip your bartenders & waitresses! Like Dave's career...I'M OUT!

Why would someone play hit songs? What are they thinking?

Who are all these people and why are they playing on the radio? ;D

Whack-a-doo, whack-a-doo, whack-a-doo

I know why kids are not listening to the radio.....songs like these are making them crazy!!!

Dave was tired of all the restrictions being placed on him by corporate radio. He wanted the freedom to be in complete control of his show. Now, he can make his show what he and his listeners want and expect from him. He's not bitter. He actually feels a sense of freedom, similar to the time before he joined KEXX.

This sure gives him that opportunity.

The Wanted are not wack.

Not too surprised with what's happening at all, but also not sure if we need a 17th chr top 40 or rhythmic station (unless they're planning to be a really really really really REALLY exceptionally good chr station).

Have you looked at the Hot AC chart recently?

Yeah, another station playing the same cookie-cutter "hit songs" you can already hear every :15, :25, and :35 on the hour on countless other stations - what *were* they thinking, indeed? If it's all about the "hits," why can't they add some Justin Bieber and One Direction, too?

And to think that once upon a time you could hear songs like "Bitchin' Camaro" by the Dead Milkmen on terrestrial AM/FM here. My, how the 103.9 has fallen.

No, but I must agree - that would've probably been a good idea for me to do!

That way, instead of me facetiously saying we don't need a 17th chr, I would've realized that they were tweaking towards Hot AC (or Adult Top 40) and said "Good! About time someone else tried *Adult Top 40* or took a Hot AC stand between KMXP and KZZP" instead.  ;D

Unfortunately, radio stations are a business and they need to make a profit.

I thought you were the one who advocated that. The challenge for Indie Radio Guy and the other Alternative fans is that the PPM world has changed things. Sadly, the methodology favors mass appeal type formats that appeal to generally either multiple people in the household or have very strong ATE in the workplace. Alternative doesn't drive enough cume and it is a mediocre at best ATE format.

People like to reference KROQ, but have you seen the numbers after Kevin & Bean go off the air. I like Alternative music a lot and have worked with the format multiple times and still do.

Alternative has had a little bit of a boost being the leader on big hits by Gotye and Fun. of late, but those have been few and far between.

And, don't underesitimate the Mix role as Alternative lite.

On the Alternative Rock front, KTCL Denver top 3 6+ April 2012, very strong results with 4-5 shares 6+ in Philly, KC, Salt Lake and others. But I'm sure there is no argument across the board that the Phoenix market really did need a 30th Katy Perry station. It might not be the best idea for a rimshot station in an over-radioed market such as Phoenix to be taking cues from the 100kw big boys.

Have you looked at the demographic and ethnic composition of those markets. Phoenix is super heavy Hispanic 18-34. X96 in SLC is a great station but has a double digit morning show. Let's compare Philadelphia to Phoenix - great comparison. Denver is a huge rock market.

KUDD in SLC is a Mainstream Top 40 and ranks top 5 in most key female demos and it covers about as much of that market as 103.9 does of PHX.
