Not without a huge contract to replace the one he's riding out.

And ain't nobody givin' or gettin' one o' them things to local radio folk any time soon, no matter how loyal their audiences supposedly are.

For someone not in the radio or television broadcasting business but in business, please help me understand something. If Pratt was under contract (something no one is disputing), how could it make sense to keep paying him (probably at a reduced amount) while you are also paying his replacements (it helped that T&W spent 12 months "In the real world" before making their new deal). Would Stacey Brooks & the other guy be covered by the same contract (or is Pratt the only one that has to be paid)? Is CBS essentially paying him to keep him off the air until the new old team T&W gets established and prevent him from harming their ratings (although the fall book was not as kind to Pratt as it had been in past quarters)? I also think he could do talk (maybe sports/talk) radio but he isn't likely to take a cut from whatever he is drawing now just to enter that market. I suspect once he quits drawing whatever CBS is paying him, he would be willing to work for a lot less (provided there is a continuing trend of people losing their chair and being replaced by old names or no names) than he was but that won't happen for another year and a half or so.

Correct. Just because you are under contract and drawing a paycheck, it doesn't mean that you have to report to work. As for the other players on the show, it depends upon how their deals were structured.

Happens in sports all the time. Think TO. If you're not a team player, and not making catches, it can be worth moving on - even if you have to take a hit.

It's well known that Dave is still under contract with CBS, and I can only assume CBS's plan was to fire him and hope he takes another job in town so they can either negotiate out, or void its remainder.

He's in a very different situation than T&W, who took about 1/5 of what Dave was making because they had to. In a sense, Dave holds all the cards. If he wants to, he can sit on his contract and wait for the storm to blow over, while still collecting his full paycheck (there might even be damages in there as well). Hell, he can retire or start a new business. One thing I doubt he'll do is play into CBS's game plan, and settle for any of the small salaries that he's no doubt been offered.

If I were to guess, he's probably working on something, he's certainly not leaving AZ.

From what i read in his book I am under the impression that him and his wife made sure that this contract would be air tight.
