dave pratt's new show

it hurts to see someone who thinks so much of himself- struggle.

First off, I don't think Pratt is struggling. He's got enough money laying around to keep doing his "show" for years without ever making a dime of profit.

Second, I've listened to it, and it sounds no different from his old radio show.

He's got the attractive female sidekick, Mark Curtis obviously phoning it in from his house, a bunch of people on the phone telling Dave how great he is, etc. etc. etc.

If you're a fan of his old radio show, that's fine. But if you're a consumer of internet content who doesn't remember the salad days of the Big Red Radio, what's the appeal?

Too early to fairly criticize... day one was yesterday and without a doubt, of course all calls would be telling Dave how much they miss him and how happy they are.

his show is horrible. the man is completely wasting his money. his show hasn't changed in 20 years. he talks about himself nonstop. the show is terrible.

I'm waiting for Pratt to release the iPhone app for his show, or for the podcast to come out on iTunes. I'll say this much, Pratt's show has got to be better than what is on the air in the Hartford, CT area. Radio in Hartford sucks! I miss Phoenix radio.

Wow... must be brutal if Phx is an upgrade. ::)

About the iPratt app: According to the Megabyte Mayor (in the Wednesday podcast labelled "Luis Gonzalez"), Apple is blocking the release of the app for reasons the Cupertino Cutthroats won't disclose. The Droid app sailed through, but Apple's being... well, they're being Apple about it.

You could always work around the trouble by downloading the full podcast each day. Don't cost a dime, and you won't have the stream's bytes count against your monthly cap the way they would if you did have an app for that.

EDIT: I should probably add the address for the podcast (you can manually enter podcast addresses in iTunes, right?):

I agree with Lauren: you almost have to throw away the first week of D.P.L. because the majority of the program will be friends and long time listeners calling to praise a Phoenix legend. By the third week, the show will have settled into a groove and then is the best time to judge.

First off my name is Mike Rowley, and you can see my post's on Dave's Facebook page.

Lets see his show has been on for two weeks, it will have its bugs and hiccups, but it seems to be flowing pretty good.

I was VERY skeptical at first how this whole thing would work out.
I really like the freedom and un-structure that he has on there. Dave can be Dave, and do what ever the hell he wants. Just listen to the music he play, you never know what your going to hear. This un-format, format is pretty dang cool. Alto he seems to be leaning to the rock side more than the country side. I guess that can be expected as he was a Rock jick way longer than a country jock. Plus Rob Trygg is a rock guy .
Since i have a blackberry phone, I have been listen to the show on Podcasts. Today i listened to Tues, Wend, and Thurs shows back to back. You can hear the rough edges being polished off and finding its flow.

Now if you hate Dave thats fine, you can hate him all you want. I have been listing since 1984 as a 14 year old. I grew up listening to Dave, heck even when i was on my mission of my church(LDS) i would write to him from the Caribbean and he would send me stickers and red cards.

So yea im a bit biased on this whole thing. I personally think he will succeed at this. He has Mark Curtis as a partner and i bet Mark has money invested into the idea. They are taking a big chance and a gamble with the internet thing. But this is the future of the radio, and he is leading the pack.

So lets see where he and the show are at in six months. It will be interesting to see what FM station picks him up first.

I tuned in...well, clicked on...to Pratt's show again this week, and my earlier comment stands. Same Dave, same show, different medium. Unless you're a lifetime fan like Mike, what's the appeal?

This isn't about "hate," either. One of the things Dave did well when he was on radio was to play the Arbitron diary game like nobody else. Everything was branded with his name, and everything was about recall. His show was less a show and more like a 4 hour commercial for Dave Pratt. And it worked.

But that era is over. Even if he were on the radio, people meter doesn't record recall. Does the number of times you say your name matter on the internet?

Damn, and I was always under the impression that LDS had a better education system...

I've caught a few of the podcasts, but don't get much of a chance to listen to any radio anymore. He is classic Dave, that's for sure. Not the most entertaining morning show out there, but certainly not the worst.
