Dave Ramsey Hits 400!

Lots of credit goes to Bob Borquez, who signs new stations. I think Dave had 65 when Bob joined the team.

I worked with Bob when Gerry House was syndicated via Premiere
(early 90's). Bob was producer for the national feed, and was great to work with.
Cutting-edge technology at the time...the show was dumped into the affiliates
hard drive at each individual station, so the break times were flexible.
Had about 40 stations at one time...including Denver and SF.

In this age of cost-cutting, Dave Ramsey has been a good solution for talk stations, since he doesn't charge affiliates to carry the show. They just have to play the show and its network ad spots. No additional cramdowns either.

I would give lots of kudos, not credit -- this is a Dave Ramsey thread.

Ok so this is a great "local guy does good" story BUT isn't his show the same from week to week? Tuned in for the first time in a wile and got the same info. Snowball, Cut up your cards, Buy my books. I got out of debt and didn't didn't do these things. Sure he has helped a lot of people but anyone can do it with out doing it his way.

Some may argue that he preaches the same old ideas and talking points, but A) it's helped him to get where he is, and B) apparently, 400 stations (which is nothing to sneeze at) can't be wrong.

How many Top 10 markets is his show carried? I know he's not on in New York. Bloomberg's WBBR would be the perfect outlet for his show, likely on tape delay (since his show is live during the all-important closing bell on Wall Street).

Ramsey, repetitive? Maybe so. Based on newly added markets his show and information will be fresh to many listeners. During our lifetimes we see something so simple and think, "I had that idea, and could have made money from it." Well, Dave put good financial principles on the air and has been successful since. To play devil's advocate: if everyone knows smoking is so bad for us, why is there a need for smoking cessation public service ads?

If you want "the same from week to week" heard, classic rock stations have a fifteen to thrity years' head start on Ramsey. "Free Bird" or "Escape/The Pina Colada Song" one more time, anyone?

Nothing is as repetitive as the constant mention of "Escape" on this board! Okay, we get it! You don't like the song! Can we now move on to another topic please? ::)

I think I know why Dave's show works so well.

"...about you and for you.."

Dave says this in every show, and he means it. In our cynical radio world it's rare to find someone that really cares more about the person on the other end of the line that ratings. Dave does this. (or at least seems to... I've never met him, but listen every day)

Repetitive... yes... but it works. The reason you keep going back is for the stories that people tell. They bear their souls on the air, and Dave helps them to fix the situation they are in. Listen this afternoon, Fridays are best because you get to hear Mel Gibson yell "FREEEEEEDOOOMMM!!!" every few minutes.
