Dave Ramsey Moving To KRLD From KLIF

Speaking of KLIF further heading into the dumpster at the mismanagement of Cumulus, it looks like Dave Ramsey is moving to KRLD 1080 8-10p weeknights starting this evening. This was confirmed earlier this afternoon via his twitter account. He even called KRLD a "Higher Rated Station" in his post and thanked his listeners...

KSKY is now also a higher rated station than KLIF - and this was BEFORE Mark Davis came on board.

And what of all those Dave Ramsey billboards KLIF has up? Presumably Cumulus spent real money on the billboards - my guess is a billboard is not something that is easy to barter for SweetJerk. They are pretty pathetic billboards as well in that one has to actually squint to see the small logo and type that indicates that the program is on KLIF which is at 570. I wonder how many people were receptive to the main message of the billboards but ended up never acting on it because they were going by too fast to actually read the small type. I have seen other billboard advertisers do that as well - you got to wonder what they are thinking. Regardless, they spend all that money plugging a show that ends up quickly going elsewhere. #CumulusFail

Ramsey billboards are generally paid for by Ramsey as part of the deal to clear him.

Anyone else notice that you couldn't even see the KLIF logo on those billboards??

You can't see them now, because KRLD has covered them up with their logo.

Funny. I did mean before the switchover, however. Remember telling myself "What a waste of a billboard!". Again, seems the demise of these heritage stations in intentional.

Honestly KLIF should just go all news from 5a to 8pm. That's my opinion.

The sad part is that KLIF and WBAP have such history in this market, with moves like ramsey leaving, as well as losing local and other syndicated programming, then being replaced by junk like mike huckabee doesnt bode well for these stations..

I noticed they have added the 3rd hour of Huckabee, but what is KLIF doing 2-4 now?

News. It would be nice to see them go news from 5a to 8pm and tape delay huckabee.

I don't see that happening. Cumulus has boasted that Huckabee is going to knock off Rush Limbaugh. Of course, it seems that they were counting on help from Media Matter's boycott campaign as a means of signing up stations. But the boasts are still out there and, presumably, they are still trying to attract more affiliates beyond just the Cumulus owned stations such as WBAP where Cumulus is rumored to want to drop Limbaugh in favor of Huckabee when their contract with him expires. (And, if Cumulus decides it is not in their best interests to kill off stations such as WBAP by doing so, my hunch is that Rush/Premiere will initiate the pull from such stations and take Hannity with them.)

How would Cumulus' boasts about the Huckabee program look to prospective affiliates if Cumulus just relegates it to a tape delay verses going head to head with Rush? Would that not imply that KLIF/Cumulus does not regard the show as being competitive with Rush in that time slot? Would it not imply that the only way the show can be a money maker for them would be to place it opposite lower rated programs in different time slots? If Cumulus is not willing to put its money where its mouth is - why should prospective affiliates?

Indeed, for the above reasons, it surprised me that KLIF did not carry all hours of the Huckabee program from the get-go. I am not sure if Cumulus dropped Ramsey or if it was the other way around. But it wouldn't surprise me that, if he were dropped, the reason was to make room for the extra hour of Huckabee. My strong guess is that Cumulus places far more importance on the Huckabee show than it does with the performance of KLIF. The big test is whether they will be willing to sacrifice successful former ABC/Citadel stations such as WBAP. But, as I mentioned above parenthetically, Cumulus might not be given a choice in the matter. #CumulusFail

Cumulus appears to be on a suicide mission and they are taking all of their stations and investors along for the ride. The end result of all this will be bankruptcy and the sale of stations to other group owners. My suspicion is that Limbaugh, Hannity and others have already started to make plans to move long before they are forced to. My bet is tjat within a year, both shows will be off all Cumulus stations.

Is CBS Radio interested in buying out Cumulus and divesting the small stations nationwide and keeping all the former crown jewels of the Disney/ABC Radio Group? Would that not be a brilliant move in the top twenty markets? In San Francisco they could move KCBS to the 810 or the 680 signal and get rid of all the small stations. The two group owners getting together for this new sports network may just be the first move to further consolidation. Yikes! Is this possible?

Is it possible? Yes. The FCC doesn't seem to care anymore about consolidation. Their attitude is the more the merrier.
Now just let Google gobble up Apple and Microsoft then have the whole thing merge with Wal-Mart and take over the one ginormous radio company left over and we'll really have something.

Let Google gobble up Apple and Microsoft........Huh? WTF? Have you been watching Wall Street the last three years? Apple could buy out Google AND Microsolt In a heartbeat.

Agreed. I've said all along that the demise of KLIF seems intentional, now WBAP as well.

That's nice.... I don't have 1080 on my presets in the car (because in their wisdom, JVC thinks I need 18 FM presets and ONLY 6 AM presets --- JERKS !!!)

But, I didn't to Dave's show anyway.... so I'm really glad about that move.. 8)
