Dave Ramsey Sells Out PHX Event, Is Taking A Beating On AZ Republic Website

...anyone think he'd sell out the event if he was still on KXAM 13~Ten? KT'R was either damned lucky in picking up Ramsey to replace the multiple personality Hendrie, or they actually knew he was exactly what they needed at night. At times the Nurse and I think Ramsey is simply the male reincarnation of Dr Laura - a personality very popular on radio, but despised in the press.

Here's a sample: "a broken record who never gets beyond the rudimentary basics of personal finance..."

Yet that's precisely why the show works: it's simple. People listen to it and they get it. Once they outgrow the advice on the show and move on, there's always someone else.

Dave could run best-ofs for a year and not only would people not notice, but it really wouldn't matter. It would be new and life-changing for somebody who just tuned in and the rest of us love listening to train wrecks.

I wouldn't say that Ramsey sold out because of his radio show. His "Financial Peace University" has a large following through megachurches that promote it and provide seminars.

His show is painful to listen to, its all hillbillies calling about common sense things that they lack.

I'm all for helping people in need, but its damned boring radio for rubes...

I think the show is pretty ok in a Dr Laura financial kind of way and for the time it's at. He takes other people's financial situations and ways of dealing with them a little too personally sometimes, but I think calling people or their children names is part of the edgy entertainment.

KTAR personality Dave Ramsey has sold out a gig next Thursday at the Dodge Theatre.

Despite his popularity in Phoenix, it appears that he also his share of haters, judging from the comments section of this article about Ramsey's appearance next week:
http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/business/articles/2010/09/16/20100916biz-Ramsey0916.html

Well, frankly, nearly every news article on every news site has crazy commentary. Hardly anything new.

I prefer the corniness of Clark Howard to the churchiness of Dave Ramsey, although both have helped many many people. Clark makes his money from his radio job. Ramsey makes his money from the folks needing help. Church people are used to the whole tithe scam, so forking over a few hundred dollars to be shouted at, told they are stupid, and then redemption through self-flagellation is pretty much recreation for many of them.

It's only half trailer-park-ites; the other half, the half that enrages me and keeps me from listening for very long, is the six-figure earners who can't seem to figure out how to get out of debt. Unless you've gone out and got yourself a raging Bolivian sneezing powder habit, how do you get that deep on that kinda bank? Just makes me scream.

And you know what Dave's advice'll be. And you know they'll never ever take it. They've earned the right, don't you see, to spend $200K if they've made $100K, and so on. Can't imagine why the average listener -- who could get totally out from under if he or she could just make $50K once in a lifetime -- wants to listen to whiny rich folk complain about their self-inflicted woes.

Then you'll just love listening to Clark on KFuNN 15~Ten between 10p - 1a. That 100 watts is a real treat ::)

at least that beats (no pun intended) self flatulation! ;D ;D

You mean the Clarkster isn't a good enough reason for the KayFuNNsters to uh...ahem...
forget to power down? (Nah, I guess it has to be either Moe Money or colon blow to be
worthy of chancing 22 gallons after sunset. ;D)

Actually, he podcasts every hour. No commercials. 36 minutes of content. Haven't listened to him on radio since he was on KTAR-AM a few years ago -- and way too frequently preempted by the Diamondbacks post-game show that often went all the way to midnight. (And these days I'm actually in the hinterlands of northern CA, where Clark does get a nice 6PM-9PM timeslot on KSTE-650AM Sacramento, but I can't stand the commercials, so I just listen the next day to the 100% free podcasts)

Doesn't this sentence sum up Rush, Hannity, Beck, and the rest of AM talk radio?

This about sums it up. Advice/common sense shows on radio = BORING. It's a shame that the ONE show on KT'R worth listening to (Phil Hendrie--a true innovator in the radio biz) was replaced by a show that tells you not to spend more than you earn. God, why not put Bruce Williams on the air, Hell, at least he gives a multitude of advice regarding various topics.

Those people critical of his show are right to do so... it's a snoozefest ... rather appropriate for 10pm I guess.

The Nurse and I kinda like hearing from the people who make $90k a year with credit card balances in the hundreds of thousands. Wassup wit dat? Even Bobbie Dooley and her friends at the Western Estates HOA have their problems! And poor Phil...now stuck on a 50 watter out in Apache Junction :-[

Bruce Williams??? Shirley you jest!

Maybe he could upgrade to a 52-watter in Scottsdale. Oh wait, they're not on at night.
Except on very rare occasions--such as every other April. ;)

And don't call me Shirley! (You knew that was coming.)

Is Bruce still among us? I thought he has passed on--or am I confusing him with Dr. Bernard Meltzer?
Speaking of 'old-time' (meaning '80s-'90s) radio talkmeisters, whatever happened to the 'other' Michael Jackson?

Bruce Williams? Dear Xenu, what a sanctimonious bore.

"I'm Bruce Williams, I'm so much smarter than you, let me bore you with my life and tell you what to do..."

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

He must have played a dozen stations here, the guy is worse than Chuck Harder...

Screw Hendrie, he treated his best fans like crap. A listener put his best clips (from when he was funny) that Phil never got around to putting on his pay per listen site (after years of promising it) and Phil was all for it, worked with him and, out of the blue made him stop. This was content Phil never ever offered, it was funny, it was free advertising via Facebook and Phil stopped it. And, Phil has still not updated his site with the content from when he was funny.

Phil is a dick, his private emails and his public rants bear that out. He is rapidly becoming a hasbeen, and he deserves it, he screwed his best fans over and he is feeling it now.

While I haven't heard Mr. Williams on the air for at least 15 years--hence my previous query as to whether he was still with us--I don't recall him as being THAT holier-than-thou.
On the other hand, IMHO, one could insert "John Tesh" into the above statement without ANY problem! ;D
