I was listening to The Dave Ramsey show today on 55 KTSA San Antonio comingback on 1-10. Not a bad program. Anybody know if he is carried by a station in Houston and what times? Thanks
 
He's on KPRC 950 the Mojo (he-he-he-he) weekdays noon to 2pm. If the Astros have an afternoon game somewhere, Ramsey disappears for that day.

Rush Limbaugh is shifted to KPRC so KTRH can carry the day-game. Dave Ramsey just isn't heard that day.

I think that sucks. Ramsey is infinitely more interesting than Limbaugh or the Astros. But, that switcheroo isn't likely to change given the current management mindset over there. Clear Channel managers don't ask me for my advice any more.

You can also listen online LIVE during the 4 hr show at Daveramsey.com....at night you can catch him on WJBO 1150 out of Baton Rouge (if conditions are right)...I like his show...even called in once when he was on 97.1...got a book out of it and some great advice.
 
Actually his show is only 3-hours LIVE. I think the 4th hour is a repeat of the first, online. He mentions that it is for either Sirius or XM. It's flagship is Cumulus' (yes, Cumulus) Nashville FM-talk station 99.7 WTN and airs from 1pm - 4pm. Ramsey's company self-syndicates the show around the country.

Around the same time that 650-KIKK dropped the business talk format (where he had ran for a few years in Houston), Ramsey forged a deal with Salem Communications for the show to be carried on their talk stations around the country. Since then he's alluded to the fact that Salem jerked them around quite a bit and he yanked the show from their network and found other outlets in the affected markets.

Interestingly enough, the conservative FM talk "network" here in Mississippi (where I now live) Supertalk MS, doesn't bother carrying Limbaugh and I cannot pick it up on any AM or FM frequencies (not that I would listen, but it is interesting to me that he cannot be heard over a large portion of north-central Mississippi).
 
I have been listening to him for years. Since the future of radio seems shady (for talent anyways). And for many, radio's monetary compensation is crap.... I think everyone in radio should adhere to the debt snowball...LOL
 
Dave Ramsey is a class-act through and through, and the real deal. He self-syndicated because he did not want to be beholden to anyone. He has the stroke to pull off of Salem, and make it up in those markets on other stations, so bully for him. Would not be too surprised to see him say adios to CC for covering him up on 950am, since his contract specifically prohibits such stunts. RadioGirl, you're right--the Debt Snowball would be a good idea for all of us...and like the rest of Ramsey's operation, the plan actually works.
 
I have a question. Why are we hearing so many repeats of Ramsey's show?

I listen to him every day on my home in the afternoon and about 95 percent of the time it's clear that the show was recorded months earlier. I frequently hear conversations I distinctly remember from a couple of months back. Only a few times have I heard a show that was clearly "live".

This past week was the capper. They ran the same show two days in a row. On Friday I heard the same callers I heard Thursday.

Can someone enlighten me on what is going on here?
 
How come BizRadio hasn't tapped him for his services if he's so good. They are a business network, supposedly. Does Ramsey know they exist?

ramsey used to be on bizradio...back before he was so good. ;)

He knows they exist, but he doesn't need them. He's making plenty of money operating on his own in self-syndication. Someone here mentioned that he may be taking his show to TV on the Fox Business Network, and I think that's great.

Ramsey is a business unto himself. He's a very successful businessman who makes a lot of money through his books and his Financial Peace University seminars.

He does lots of traveling giving lectures and doing seminars. When he can't do a live show, they will rerun a old show.

He's a self serving shill, trying to make money off of the downtrodden, while using Christ as his "reason" for doing so.

Dave, the people you purport to help can't afford your "university". Just give them advice & allow your advertising to make you money.

For my money, I'll take Clark Howard anyday.

If you can't afford Financial Peace University (I can't right now), there are other ways for people to get started on cleaning up the messes they've made for themselves.

How is having a radio program that people can listen to for free, a one hour podcast people can download for free (assuming they can afford a computer and internet access) and sending callers to Financial Peace University for free.
You're right, completely self serving.

I may question some of his opinions, but I think he's doing a good thing.
There are other ways of making money that aren't so honest, and I'm sure he could do them if he really wanted.
And no, I'm not a PR guy for him.
Just a listener who thinks he makes sense.

As for Clark Howard, I don't know anything about him.
Maybe I'll check him out.
Does he advocate getting out of debt and staying out of debt?
 
Thanks Jimmy. Well put. Ramsey frequently gives away tickets to his Financial Peace University and gives free copies of his books to people who're really hard up and deep in debt.

Ramsey is a practicing Christian who offers up Bible verses that apply to personal behavior, but he doesn't proselytize. Don't listen if that turns you off.

His approach to helping people solve their financial problems is simple and direct. He reminds people that they got themselves into debt and only they can get themselves out of it by just paying their bills.

He just presents an effective strategy for doing it in a systematic way.

I can testify that it works. Using his "Debt Snowball" strategy, my wife and I have paid off about half of 30 thousand dollars in debt in just the past 12 months.

Vilify him if you like, but I think he's doing a very valuable service.
 
A footnote to the posting I just made:

It's worth noting that Dave Ramsey is not a "Consumer" reporter, or even a "Consumer Advocate". He doesn't investigate products and report the good ones and bad ones.

For want of a better label, I guess you could call him a "financial advisor in reverse." Instead of offering advice on what to buy, he advises people to stop buying things they don't need, and paying for everything with cash instead of a credit card.

Ramsey's show is completely focused on helping people get themselves out of debt and staying debt free. I think he's great.
 
Ramsey's information is very good. He is direct and to the point. If you caused yourself to get into debt he will say it is your fault now clean it up. My wife and I have been listening for for about 18 months and we've paid off about 40k using the debt snowball and that was just by listening to the show, buying a $15 book, and using same old fashoined common sense.
 
I can testify that when you're deep in debt it's hard to see the logical common sense ways of getting out. That's why I like Ramsey. He has a way of cutting through the BS and getting right down to the problem, and helping you see the common sense solution.

His debt snowball idea is a wonderful systematic way of doing it, but he's the first to tell you that nothing will work if you don't get very dedicated and determined and passionate with it and stick with it.

90 percent of all debt is driven by personal habits and behavior, and the only way to get out of debt is to change both.
