ANY lingering doubts that David Letterman detests Bill O'Reilly will be laid to rest tonight, when the gap-toothed funnyman has the conservative Fox News powerhouse on his CBS "Late Show" and machine-guns him with insults.

In a tape previewed by Page Six, things go downhill fast ...

The guy you defend as getting the story right. When will you realize he's a predictable pawn who exists only to reflexively attack anyone who disagrees with a conservative point of view. And more laugh out loud Photoshop fun as well... how juvenile.

In the rich tapestry of information and depth that exists in this world today, why waste time with an errant thread that fell on the floor.

He clearly has an axe to grind, seemingly to the point of obsession.
That does tend to warp his judgment.
And in his eagerness to get dirt on AAR, sometimes he finds some.
It's not much different than some of your AAR predictions based on wishful thinking.
You both see what you want to see.
And you both can't acknowledge that those you agree with can do wrong; those you disagree with can do right.
When you read Maloney, you read history and personal assessment.
I just read what's in front of me. If it makes sense, I'll consider it and look into it.
You immediately dismiss anything he says because the world is one big political argument and you won't concede any possible debating point.
In Casablanca, ever notice how alike Major Strasser and Victor Laszlo are?

As Lee Marvin said in Cat Ballou...

It was swell!

O'Reilly got a comeuppance - a taste of his own vile medicine.
His standard ideology-driven rants seemed lame compared to Dave's funny and common-sense observations.
The difference between Dave and the comedy hacks at AAR is: (1) Dave is funny. (2) Dave says what the audience would say if they were that quick and that funny; Dave asks the questions the audience would ask if they had the chance. Dave speaks for the audience; the AAR hacks (like their right-wing counterparts) speak for the political establishment to the audience. (3) Dave knows how to listen; he can be the straight man. It makes him a better interviewer than most so-called professional interviewers. Maybe AAR was almost on to something when they hired comedians; they just should have hired good comedians.

I must admit I was surprised by the audience reaction. I thought to myself "if New Yorkers aren't worried about terrorism, why should a midwestern hick like me be worried about it." Then I e-mailed my congressmen and suggested that the federal government cut even more money from New York's annual Terrorism Defense fund.
