WOW!!! I remember as a kid always seeing him on the old Mid Day Report on Channel 10... He had an amazing voice on and off the TV and Radio... RIP Dave... CC1
I feel bad for Joe Pinner, too. Dave was "Uncle Dave" on Mr. Knowzit. Joe just had to do the eulogy at Bob Fulton's service. I wonder if he'll do this one too?
Dave was a good man. That's actually an understatement. He was the same on and off the air. He was always willing to give advice and encouragement to me and I appreciated it. I went to the service. A lot of familiar faces were there as well as plenty of friends and family. Pinner did not do the eulogy. Pastors from Cayce United Methodist and Congaree Presbyterian both did eulogies. He attended both churches. Jim Welch sang and played a song for him on his guitar. (Who knew?). It was a sad and touching service. RIP, Dave.
I worked briefly with Dave at WIS Radio in the mid-80's. I've never forgotten how amused he was when he told me how some wordsmith had described his voice..."the warm, dulcet tones of Dave Rogers".
As I recall, he was from somewhere around Bennettsville, and had begun his career there at WBSC (1550). I forget the other stations where he'd told me spent time jockeying discs, but I seem to recall WACA (1590 - now WCAM) in Camden and WNOK (1230) in Columbia were on the list.
As others have said...he was an incredibly nice guy.
