Dave Ross, Colleen O’Brien retiring after co-hosting ‘Seattle’s Morning News’ for a decade

"Dave Ross, one of Seattle’s most influential and trusted broadcasters, and Colleen O’Brien, a broadcasting legend who’s hosted “Seattle’s Morning News” for 10 years alongside Ross, are both retiring from radio, leaving behind a legacy that has profoundly impacted the Seattle community."

Dave has done it all, and is a sharp mind. Colleen O'Brien incredibly talented as well.

I've been both a long time fan and recent critic of KIRO's programming, but while this was an inevitable retirement at least on Dave's part, I think losing them both is going to be a hit to the station's image and credibility. Replacing what those two brought to the station is going to be incredibly difficult.

This is sad news (but not unexpected). I have listened to Dave Ross on KIRO my entire life. I hope that KIRO can find a worthy successor to keep the station relevant in the years to come. I don't listen to KIRO as much as I did a few years ago (outside of afternoon drive), and I would love to have more reasons to come back.

Did I miss the date of their last show on KIRO-FM in the article? Seems I saw somewhere else a couple weeks ago that Dave was going to finish up sometime in mid-December. Hoping he isn't done already. He, and Colleen, are one of the few class acts, in my opinion, on Seattle radio. The mean-spirited snark from KIRO's other 'bro' hosts the rest of the day and night is a huge turn-off for me. I mean, making fun of the weather forecast before the big winds actually hit? And not understanding that just because you aren't experiencing something, doesn't mean it's the same for others in your audience?
Back to the KIRO Morning News, I'll always remember Sully the traffic guy describing the near-death experience he had with a Covid infection back in 2020, when he came back on the air after being off sick for about a month. I have a lot of respect for him, too.

He's been at KIRO for 46 years! Very few in broadcasting can claim to be with one radio station for that length of time. He started as a news reporter, then got his own talk show in 1987. Huge loss for Seattle radio, but he is 72 years old, so a well deserved retirement.

Congrats on your retirement Dave! I've known that name since I was little, going way back to the 710 AM days.

Stirring the pot a bit, but does Bonneville use his retirement and Colleen's departure to completely resent their on-air lineup?

Charlie is the logical choice. I would've tried to keep Colleen, she's really good but I think she wants to focus on TV. She has that look to do TV news.

Late, but now Manda Factor has jumped from KNWN to anchor Seattle’s Morning News.

KNWN reacts by hiring Denise Whitaker, Chris Nguyen and Aaron Taylor to join Calvert. Chris will be interim morning co-host, Denise will be permanent.

Surprised Lotus is actually adding talent to KNWN. That's an expensive format and I wasn't sure how long they'd continue to compete after cutting it to the bare bones previously.

I don’t find it too shocking. The days of needing dedicated reporters for a news/talk radio station are probably over. However, there’s definitely a need for someone who can present the content well in-studio. They already have a partnership with KOMO, so they’re covered on news stories and content. But having quality anchors is something they still need.

KNWN knows KIRO is still king so this is a reaction, Denise, Chris, and Aaron are good choices, makes me wonder what happened to get them to jump from TV to radio. To be a fly on the wall of their contract negotiations. It's also showing Calvert and co. have some fight in them, so this should be a good competitor.
