Dave Russell joins Kelly West on WARM-103.

Is it true that John London has been terminated after many years of loyalty at WARM-103 FM? This is to supposedly make room on the payroll for a new hire! :-\

Yes, it is true. John has been there since '87. Former WSBA personality Dave Russell is joining Kelly West in the morning.

It's official! Dave Russell, formerly of WSBA-AM fame, joins Kelly West in the mornings on WARM-103. The times...they are ah changin'.

He (John London) had been there since '85. Scoot, your sources are letting you down.

I'm sorry to hear about John London's ouster at WARM. I worked with him while I was at WLAN-FM in the mid-80's. John was on the AM side of things and wasn't there too long after I got there. He made the move to overnights at WARM. I see radio is still the unfeeling, ungrateful business I left 7 years ago....give years of your life, do what you're asked, perform at a consistently high level of talent, and after many years of service, a cold good-bye without so much as a thanks, kiss my ass, go to hell, nothing. Here's hoping John lands a gig with someone soon...his pipes are too good to be off the air.

Those of us familiar with John’s previous tenure as morning sidekick in 1985 are not surprised by this turn of events. John is a nice guy, competent at his work, great sense if humor. He and I shared that building during the late night hours until I left in 1989. I always thought we kept each other sane. He was jerked around a lot at WARM. It ticks me off to see it happen again. You won’t find anyone who worked with John who would say anything negative about him. Well, perhaps one person, but that’s all I’m going to say.

Dave Russell was my replacement at WSBA when I went over to WGTY. He was a friend of Kelly's. His arrival and my leaving didn’t coincide, but I left him detailed instructions on the late night procedure. You had to wear several hats: air personality (talk after every song!), news reporter (twice an hour!), sports reporter (Friday nights were a nightmare, what with high school sports and dirt track racing), plus the dreaded Operation Snowflake in the winter. I spoke with him a few years later and he thanked me for my how-to manual. Seemed like a nice guy. Perhaps he and Kelly will have more chemistry.

So John London now joins Jack Malloy, Denny Wagner and about a dozen more veteran radio people who are on the streets of South Central PA with no gigs out there. What a business. John, Jack, Denny, let's get together for coffee sometime.

Breaking the News
It's not the Internet that's killing newspapers. It's the equity-chasing investors and their friends at the FCC who have put outsize profits before a free press.

my favorite part....

here:

Unsuspecting, Martin said that it had never been completed. Then, as he watched glumly, Boxer brandished a draft of the study, which had, in fact, been written more than two years earlier, only to be buried by the FCC. The report found that locally owned television stations, on average, presented 5 1/2 minutes more local news per broadcast than stations owned by out-of-town conglomerates. The findings squarely contradicted the claims made by Martin, [former FCC chairman Michael] Powell, and big media companies, who have argued that lifting limits on ownership would improve local news coverage.
..

of course having their lies exposed won't cause them to slink away in shame....

Hey congratulations to Dave! Our paths crossed while I was working at WLEV in Allentown. They really put him through the meat grinder at that place. Glad to see him in am drive again.

Dave is a truly nice and caring guy who didn't deserve the stuff that mgmt. at Citadel Allentown put him and his former co-host through. Good luck to him!

Yes, both John and Dave are nice guys. I worked with both of them at WARM/WSBA back in the early 90s. I did not know he got jerked around in Allentown, but I wondered when he went from doing afternoons to doing traffic on 'LEV. Yes, some things about radio never change.......

Congratulations, Dave. Stu Leppo said you were surprised that I hacn't contacted you. Check an OLD statiojn Directory for my number, and keep in touch.

Where have you been? John London has been doing voice-overs for TV spots for 25 years (He has appeared in several commercials, too!) and for Fox 43 TV since 2001. If you see him operating a TV camera in the near future...that's right, he's been doing that since April of 1985. When you see him covering a parade for Comcast Cable TV in York...that's right, he's been doing that since 1988. Not every radio announcer lives in a little box where he does one thing. And by the way, he didn't leave Warm 103 "to start his own business."

Dude, don't start your BS with me. I'm familiar with John's air work, cable TV work, etc., though not concerned
enough to know every aspect of his Broadcasting career.

What does ANY of this have to do with the original post subject?...
Has anyone actually listened to this morning show?

Kelley and Company? Is Dave the company to stroke her ego?
When I was in the area I was amazed at the lack of chemistry!
Has this show got any better?
