Dave Russell joins Kelly West on WARM-103.

Hey Dock....thanks for getting us back on track! I too would like to hear comments about the show.

I've listened to "Kelly and Co" on my way into work....It's ALL Kelly and no Company...Dave gets word in "maybe" when she takes a sip of Coffee....but for the most part it's her dominating the entire show. I've also noticed that if Dave seems to be taking any kind of thunder away from Kelly while on the air she seems quick to cut him off and make sure she's being the one in charge! IMHO.

The entire show seems to revolve around "what %of people say they do this before they do anything else in the morning?" type questions...seems trite.

I just don't care for this Show I liked it ALOT better when Melanie Gardner was doing AM drive..she kept things fun and interesting. This show doesn't seem that way...the repor that these to have seems icy and scripted( you speak then I speak then I speak then I speak and then you speak dave..okay!) just a very boring morning show.

Later

The one show I've heard since she came back on the air was right before Mother's Day. The trivia question was "What is the least favorite thing that a mother receives as a gift on Mother's day." A called answered, "To have her children put her picture in the paper; she may be embarrassed." Kelly's answer was in a condescending tone and was something along the lines of, "I've never heard of putting a mother's picture in the paper for mother's day. Of course, I wouldn't mind my picture in the paper because I have good, professional pictures taken. Then again, I don't need my picture in the paper because my face appears on billboards all over the area!"

Dave "chuckled" along with her. I flipped stations at that moment in disgust and never did hear what the answer to that trivia question was...

All her comments to callers are in condescending tones...like she's better than the listener...and what better way to keep people listening than to talk down to them...great concept! At least I feel a little better now knowing that I'm not alone in the thought that this is a bad (host)show.

I have a feeling working with her is like working with Raquel Welch...where it's her way or the highway..and from a few people I have talked to that seems to be her M.O..if she doesn't like you ..somehow you disappear from the payroll...how nice!

I've listened to Kelly's former co-host on Mix and even though it's still as corny there to...it's just a little bit more enjoyable to listen to those 2 than to Kelly and Kelly!

Just some food for thought........possibly because the show is called Kelly and Company, it's SUPPOSED to be more Kelly then anything else? And think about it.....she led a morning show that DOMINATED the market for many years. I know it's not the norm......but what's wrong in this day and age with a female dominated show especially on a female targeted radio station? IN NYC, the biggest A/C in the country has a show with two women on it. Oprah is the biggest thing for many women on TV. That's my take on the show. Right or wrong, management must have felt that Melanie and John weren't cutting it. And I supposed the answers are in the ratings from that time period.

Hey yocco...you are very well correct and I see your point and feel bad for being a bit askew on that notion. However, my main point I was trying to make was that it doesn't sound like any other AM drive pgm on the air and I don't mean that as a compliment. The breaks sound to me to be VT'd mostly and doesn't sound live at all...and for me that makes the show seem cheesy to me....I like a morning show that has some interaction with the listeners in a coversational manner. Not playing the "best of" of the callers for that day. See what I'm saying. I just don't find the show that listenable when the breaks are staged.

All I'm trying to say is so they got the "BIG" name back on Warm...and everyone in the area knows who she is.....but there has to be some chemistry, which their certainly isn't. Sure the show she did on WARM in the past was a ratings winner that is evident. However, just because the STAR is back doesn't mean it's going to be an automatic homerun. Just ask George Wendt, Michael Richards, Jason Alexander, anyone of the the stars from the Carol Burnett show minus carl. All were great together but by themselves or with a "new" partner they flopped...and I feel this show is a flop!

Sonny and Cher together on their original show were fine. But later, Sonny doing a solo show and Cher doing a solo show and even after that Sonny and Cher back together ALL FLOPPED. The chemistry was all gone. Same situation here, especially since the brains of this once successful radio show (Rick Sten) left a long time ago. You can't go back home again. Try to tell that to the moron market managers who insist on revisting the past because they have NO NEW IDEAS. Give them a shovel and they'll dig up Ron Drake.

Not from 1994-2000, and again 2002-2003. I royally kicked her HUGE ass persons 12+, 18-34, and 25-54 during those years at WLAN, then later at WIOV. But hey, who's ass didn't I kick in Arbitron?

Finally, someone who can't put what I was trying to say in simple terms. thanks Jockstar!

Just b/c you bring back a familiar voice back doesn't mean that you have a good show. It just goes to show that people are afaid to try something new

To be totally accurate here, you probably beat her in Lancaster..I'm guessing the York #s didn't show the same result.

OK....what something "new" would you suggest the station try? As I stated previously, the Mel and John show was probably not getting the job done. Or management would not have felt the need to change.
There was an article written awhile back about former Central PA radio personalities. Do you think a station would be wrong to try to bring back Brother Weems? Or even "I kicked everyone"s *** in Arbitron" Cadillac Jack?
Why not? We all know the talent level today is not anywhere near what it used to be.

Kelly West has only been back since last fall. Only recently has the Cumulus brass decided it was time to market her and the station. It's way too early to be drawing any conclusions. The voters will have their say.

[....has only been back since last fall.]

That means she's had 8 months to do something on mornings and we're still waiting. Mel and John NEVER had that kind of time, yet post Dave Crockett on with Mel and John (What a disaster that was! He proved once and for all he's nothing more than the old fashioned laughing sidekick. But he's turning out to be a wonderfully subserviant sidekick to his co-host on another radio station.) Mel and John only had 3 months together (June-July-August '06) yet they managed an 8 share in August. Earlier, Mel and John from August through December of '05 (again without Crokett) were voted the number 1 drive time hosts by the Readers of Lancaster County Magazine. It's not their problem amnagement had no faith in their abilities as a morning team. By the way, a former promotions manager suggested using Mel and John's number 1 status as a marketing tool, the market manager at that time said "no." She is no longer employed in radio.

I have been listening to WARM since my son and daughter were in diapers. Now, both are in college. I have been loyal throughout all of the ups and downs, personality changes and mild format changes. Although I am not in the industry, I am an avid radio fan and even after spending many years in San Francisco and Cincinnati, have yet to hear a morning show with as much promise and quality as John London and Melanie Gardner. I can only compare the experience of listening to the "Kelly and Co." show to driving past a car wreck. It's so incredibly horrific that I cannot help but pay attention to it. There is absolutely NO chemistry between Dave and Kelly, the show seems choppy and scripted and I find Kelly condescending with not only Dave but mainly, listeners. People probably report in their diaries listening to her out of fear of what she may so if they don't.

And... if I see her big fat face on another billboard, I think I am going to throw up.

I am so glad I am still able to listen to Mel in the afternoons. I can't wait for John to pop up again sometime soon. If anyone knows when I can expect that to happen, please let me know.

Thank God I'm not the only one who feels this way! You see even listeners can pick up on the train wreck that is Kelly and Co. BTW is that all that show is is just phone calls? Anyway, I would describe this show to bringing Ted Koppel in to host the Tonight show...sure you'd have a show to present..but it isn't doen right witht he right people. Voice Tracking a morning show is just plain lame.

My guess is that Kelly records her breaks then goes on a witch hunt throught he station to see who she can get fired b/c she doesn't like the way someone doesn't Kiss her ass.

In a side note John London has surfaced at Mix 106.7 reuniting with brother in arms Rick Sten...congrats to him! What they did to him down at WARM was just plain dispicable

Wait... so you're saying that old radio guys do have a place in the business? :p

Congrats to John London! Maybe there's hope for radio afterall.
:)

Just curious for Mr. Scooter?...

Is that your on air name and really what do you mean that John London is your only hope for the future of radio?
With all due respect, Frankly, I would find it hard to listen to a guy who calls himself "Scooter"...?
I would have to turn in my "Man Card".... ::)

Oy... I was an oldies jock for 15-years (before that just went by "Scott Fortney" on AC radio). "Scooter" was a common nickname on oldies stations. My boss just started calling me that one day and it stuck. BTW, Doc, I don't think I said that John was my "only" hope. I was just stating that it's good to see one of the vets who have been on the sidelines for a while back on the air.

Actually you did state there is hope for radio after all!
That being said...Where do you see yourself on-air with all of your talent?...

I always thought that being in radio would be a blast but you guys all seem to miserable! Be nice to each other!

I haven't heard John London on Mix yet but I have been listening...
I wonder if he'll be doing live broadcasts too. I saw him one time and he's pretty good looking. :)
