Dave Ryan Retiring

With the recent affiliate adds for The Fred Show, I hope this is Dave's decision and not a "we'll let you retire but you have to do it now" situation.

I saw Dave on Fox 9. It sounds like it was his decision. I was wondering if this was a case similar to Tom Barnard when he "retired" from KQ.

As I recall, Barnard talked about retirement on multiple occasions over several years. Ultimately, he got pissy when Cumulus finally decided to take him up on it. Perhaps the long-term plan to eventually skew younger had something to do with it.

In regard to Ryan, he's probably at the point where he can easily retire in style, on his own terms, before getting kicked out the door. Good for him for being so decisive. Being over 60 and successful in a younger-skewing format is quite an accomplishment.

Just announced, per Dave:

Colt and Falen moving up to mornings starting day after Memorial Day. Something happening with Jenny, Vont and Bailey coming, but has not yet been disclosed.

Barnard was an interesting situation, because IIRC he had a few years left on his contract when Cumulus pushed him out. I think management was just tired of the increasing toxicity he had towards large portions of the population, and likely also needed to figure out how to push the station younger.
