Dave Ward of KTRK departed

😲

"Good night, friends."

He was the last standing of the 4 gentlemen I grew up seeing in Houston during parts of my childhood. Ed Brandon, Bob Allen, Marvin Zindler, and now Dave Ward. I read, too, recently that Melanie Lawson is retiring.

Very sad day for Houston. My condolences to the Ward family, friends, associates, and all of those this man served for over a half century. God bless you, Dave.

And I didn't even realize until just earlier that his son, David Jr., a New Year's child, predeceased him in 2023 at 60.

Definitely the face of Channel 13 for all those years. He was a solid anchor, backed up by a tremendous news operation. I never had the fortune of encountering him in person out in the field, but all the Channel 13 folks I knew were top-notch...and friendly competitors.

He was younger than I thought he was...which just goes to show you the kind of authority he could project.

Dave Ward...a good man who'll be missed. Rest in peace, Dave; you served your adopted city well.

Thanks for posting the video. I moved to Houston as a nine year old in 1969. So Dave Ward and Ron Stone were huge influences on my desire as a youngster to get into broadcasting (them and Seymore Broomwhat, but that's a different story). We were more of a KPRC family, but I still had a lot of respect for channel 13 as well.
