Dave Williams Out at KNX

Hearing word that Dave Williams did his last morning shift at KNX on Friday (12/12). They told him it was only because of budget cuts.

Very sad indeed...I worked at KNX when Dave was just coming in from next door at KFWB - Took Mornings from Ton Haule. A nice guy with a big heart. I wish him best of luck. Joe G

What a brilliant move! He is a total pro, and does not let his political views permeate his broadcasts. He is part of the "Sacramento Mafia" :) and moved over to KNX from a sucessful run at KFWB (following KABC.) This does not look like a decision made by David G. Hall. Instead, it is a typical example of a peddler making decisions affecting people's lives and short-changing the listener. (Witness KFWB on Saturday and its junk "pay to play" programming of dubious hustlers selling their wares if you want to see the dismantling of an icon.)

Sorry, I never felt like Williams settled into LA. He was clearly from elsewhere, after a while I realized it was Sacramento that was his true home.

He also had a very bad habit of bobbling the time announcements. A rather important feature of an all-news station that lives by the clock and constantly has to give the time; he would frequently give a time that was off by 2 or 3 hours, not just a few minutes.

Re: Dave Williams Out at KNX--Will he resurface at KABC... or perhaps in Sacto?

With Williams out the KNX door, and former KFBK co-worker and now ex KNX PD David G. Hall heading to KABC, is there likelyhood that Hall would bring Williams back to KABC?

Or is Williams more likely to return to Sacramento?

Ted

Always thought DW was a bit of a star-f*#ker on the air....That played well in Sacramento, but not all that well in LA where people are a bit more blase about celebrities...

I don't think he's had a real impact on any of the stations he's worked at in LA.

When I was about fourteen my dad taught me something I've never forgotten:

"People say you have a right to your opinion," he told me. "That's only half true. You have a right to an informed opinion. If you don't know what you're talking about you should shut the hell up."

Dave

When I was 14, my father taught me how to spot BS from a mile away... ::)

I always thought very highly of DW. I still do.

When I was 14, my dad taught me that people reveal much about their own lack of character when they feel the need to disparage others.

For those on the boards who haven't done their research Mr. Williams is serving his second tour of duty in Los Angeles. For a time in the 70's he was the Program Director of K-Earth 101 and also programmed WHBQ in Memphis. Both were RKO stations at the time and you had to be at the top of your game to work there. I'm sure that working in the state capitol has shaped his opinions, but he's more than qualified to work in LA.
