I was listening to Dave this morning and at the top of the hour they had an image mentioning 99X. I think it mentioned the influence the station has had in Atlanta and it saluted the staff (specifically mentioned Leslie), then went into DMB - Crash Into Me. I wonder if they're doing this all day?

Also, anyone else check out www.edave.com? I get the Dave email updates and yesterday's had a link to the new site. I like some of the content, but the user interface leaves a lot to be desired.

It's been playing at the top of every hour since yesterday afternoon (with different songs following it).

Classy move.

Classy move and SMART move - gleaning the disgruntled 99x listeners searching for what happened to their radio station. Could pop DAVE's numbers about a half point. Not bad.

I'm sure Dave is loving this. They will pick up a bunch of 99x listeners I feel sure. Dave's playlist is starting to look alot like the 99x of the 90's.

I spoke with Leslie about this. It's sad the a competitor pays tribute when Cumulus says nothing.
I hope she lands a job with another radio station soon.

Yeah, that move was as much about trying to grab some listners as it was about paying tribute to 99X, believe me...

Oh deadman, if I had more time, I would go back and review your posts for the last couple of years, but, if I had to make a guess, you and I went at it over the value of Dave about 214 times. You must've called for Dave's head twice a week for the last two years... My how things change.... ;)

As far as Leslie goes, she is easily one of the most talented people in this town. She will have her choice of gigs, I'm sure. That is assuming she even wants to get back into this mess called radio. She could make a small fortune consulting if she really wanted to.

Some people around here need a dose of reality. Cumulus owed Leslie nothing as far as on-air recognition. When I stumble in my jobs after years of success and they fire me they are not going to have a going away party and one last go round with my clients.

Her reward was her paycheck and by my estimation she was probably stealing that last couple of years with my perceived impression that she still thought she should be on the Morning X when in reality she was unrelatable to the audience they were going after.

99x was great station and Leslie was a big part of making that happen but the fact is those days have been gone for years. Even before Cumulus bought the station.

Hey I admit it. I would have loved to seen Toucher and Rich with O&A mornings. It didn't happen and the cirumstances now have changed. 99x is over. Even as a XM subscriber, I still think local radio should be supported. So my options have dwindled, all I have left is DAVE. So write this down. I was wrong. I glad that DAVE stayed on and I hope they get a 1.7 bump in 12+.

Both Dave and 99X were struggling to get a 2 share. I always thought it would be a matter of who blinked first. The other would likely pick up a point or more from the other (not counting listeners who skewed harder and would defect to Project and not Dave) and get off the hot seat. Dave/Infinity just got a late Christmas present.

Yes, this is a smart move for Dave on the business side and to gain loyalty of 99X fans. By featuring tributes about the people such as Leslie that made 99X, it is a very respectful way to welcome X listeners and to tell them that they've grown up a bit where they can still hear the familiar music of 99X and learn to appreciate some of the music that Dave can introduce to them. On the other hand, The Buzz and Project have countlessly bashed the station, the employees, and constantly refer to it as 99SUX.

I do hope Dave benefits from this more than Project. CBS has been loyal to the station and the listeners despite the bad ratings and Dave deserves to benefit by gaining the loyal 99X listeners. Clear Channel will fire all employees and blow up Project the second their ratings fall. I never understand why several people on this board hate Dave so much, but I see the potential they have in creating soul and personality that connects with their listeners just like 99X did. If they execute properly, maybe they can last as long as 99X did.

I don't get it either. If NOT drilling the same excruciatingly small selection of tunes into my brain is bad radio, then give me bad radio.

Heard this yesterday and was pretty impressed by the sentiment (no matter the intentions).

And yes, for the record, Dave is the best FM station in Atlanta.

Chronology of events:

Early 2007 - Dave is the worst station in Atlanta.
June 2007 - I announce my candidacy for PD of DAVE-FM.
Late June 2007 - Michelle Engle is fired.
January 2008 - DAVE is the best FM station in Atlanta.

You're welcome.

For the record Neil, I've enjoyed Dave from its inception (insomuch as I even listen to FM radio which admittedly isn't much) BUT your contributions have not gone unnoticed. ;D
