DavePrattLive.com

I worked in Valley radio off and on for a few years, got out a little over three years ago and I've read this site from time to time but haven't ever commented. I was surprised that nobody else put the pieces together for Dave Pratt's new direction, so I registered to share the good news. At least...it's good news if you know how self-important Dave is.

As you know, he waited out his CBS deal but nobody was seriously going to bite if he kept his price high, which his ego obviously mandates. Whether he seriously looked for an outlet or not, I don't know. What I do know is that because of the not-so-clever handle of his Facebook page (facebook.com/daveprattlive), you can jump to the conclusion that his new website will be DavePrattLive.com. And it is. And it's live. Kind of.

Earlier today, he had a test up there for his new "show," launching Tuesday, March 1st. It's Pratt, Mark Curtis, executive producer Rob Trygg, some faceless web guy, and the new Karen Lindsay/Stacey Brooks. She's a 22-year-old model named Kassie Jayde. So a huge comeback for the Mayor. He's still using promo photos from CBS, one of which I think dates back to 2004 or so, whenever he switched over to The Big Hump Radio.

And yep, the new show is internet-only. What a shock. He wrote something on there - and again, the test has been pulled down and now there's just some "Coming Soon" message - about launching a whole network of shows through his site, and of course, he's spinning the whole thing as Pratt leaving terrestrial radio behind instead of the other way around. The position is it's the show all his fans want whenever his fans want it. Based on the current frequency of comments on his AZCentral blog, those three guys and that one lady will be totally stoked.

But maybe he had something else planned. About a month ago, when I first checked on DPL.com, it was registered to Mission Media, Clancy Woods' outfit that runs Sporting News Radio. Clancy, of course, overpaid Dave to do afternoons at The Zone and his track record of blowing smoke and then getting canned is well-documented. Well, Mission and Clancy parted ways right around Christmas, which probably left Dave a little up in the air. The site has a new registrant now, but this time around, it's not anybody that has an overriding interest in radio.

Pratt said he wanted to make the big announcement (the "scoop," as he so cavalierly called it) on Channel 12 and in The Republic the first week in February. But I figured, knowing what I know here, if you fine people don't deserve it...

let's see...pratt's final "big stick/100k watts" book shows that he finished 15th 25-54a...(fa 08)

translate that kinda "popularity" to a potential internet ranking and he should finish somewhere between a "we go dark at dusk" am stick in north nogales and myauntshotcrossbuns.com video tutorial on how to ...errr..cross buns...?

me wonders if the show will be webcast from his coronado studio or his pv one?

this is gonna be huge

How does one go to the Prattster's BBQ if it's "internet only"? I've yet to figure out
how to cook a slab of beef on top of my computer. :D

Its a virtual BBQ, but you still have to submit your name, shoe size, SSN and a swab of saliva for DNA tracking if you wish to attend.

I actually think internet only/pod casts is the way of the future for personality driven content. Pretty soon we will be able tap into streams while in our car, already can ge apps if you have a iphone or droid so I think this is the way to go. Like I said in another post, radio today isn't giving me the entertainment value it once did so I made my own radio station and just get the podcasts on my ipod and go.Too bad radio has lost its Edge so to speak.

Wow, that sure is a lot of detailed information, there..."marco."

It is almost like someone is trying to promote his new show here at a board he claims not to read. ::)

Oh, I'm not Dave, even though his almost pathological need to be stroked has, I'm sure, brought him here with a fake name before. I worked at CBS for a little while, but because I'm still close to a few people that have bounced to different addresses in town - who hasn't, if they worked at 840 in the past decade? - I've gone anonymous. I thought Dave was mostly harmless until I read his book and measured up some of his claims with the other side of the story. He's a charlatan. Great self-promoter, boring show, no new angle, and saves the biggest Pratt pat on the back...for Dave Pratt.

And I don't know how he plans to make big money with his web-only show. He's got to pay five salaries and I'm sure even Earnhardt won't fork over that much to grace a glorified podcast with maybe a few thousand listeners. Carolla at least has a nationwide following, but Dave can't sustain that thing for long. Even if everyone else is in for a revenue share, Dave's still going to want his X hundreds of thousands first, and that's just not going to happen.

Bitter, party of one.

Well on his facebook page there are 2,630 people who have "liked" his page. Now if he even gets half of those listeners download/streaming the show daily and then gets advertisers... it could be a win win. Of course in the beginning it will be rough but I have seen on other shows including Big O and Dukes that advertisers are now trying out the new medium. I wont convince anyone of anything, just am loving this reinvention of personality driven radio.

I don't know. I mean, I get the argument that radio is helpless in the face of the internet...in fact I heard that argument over 10 years ago. But 1,300 listeners seems like a pretty small audience, even on the internet. I'm going to take a wild guess and say that his former employers get more people streaming their stations on a weekly basis, and I'll take another wild guess and say the rates they're getting for streaming spots are not enough to pay the salaries of the alleged staff mentioned in the OP.

What is the going rate for a spot on a download/podcast with a few thousand listeners? Does anyone around here have that info?

As mentioned before, Dave Pratt has a blog on the Arizona Republic website azcentral.com. I read it first thing everyday. I've written several replies, mostly light-hearted jabs at Dave.

In Monday (31 Jan) edition Pratt posts ratings for KUPD and KMLE. Both were near the bottom. I checked his column later in the day and several people comment back with the majority being negative at Dave. Normally Dave doesn't respond to posts, but this time he did. That generated even more feedback.

I was going to post a link but the entire article has been deleted from the website.

Well to his point, both stations are down terribly. Is it because he is not there? Well I guess we will never know but the ratings speak for themselves.

I don't think KUPD's Holiday ratings reflect anything other than more people with meters listening to KEZ's Christmas music than Ozzy ;D. I think KUPD will rebound and the ratings will be more in line with previous months.

At least we know Dave Pratt's ego is big enough to take credit for any decline in ratings at KMLE/KUPD. I would hazard to guess that a majority of KUPD's current listeners have no idea who Dave Pratt is and that he was even on KUPD. He'd have much better name recognition with KMLE's listeners, though.

I will be interested to see how his new internet radio show pans out. Most employers block internet radio stations, so he either needs to win over the SAHM (stay at home moms) or capture the attention of the smart phone users who actually listen to internet radio.

Go to azcentral.com to read all about his new venture. Starts Monday 6-10am. I am looking forward to bringing the Mayor up on my smart phone monday morning ;-)

what is....a website with a stream? whats the delay? the response won't even get a fraction that a show on FM would.

He's probably hoping the show gets picked-up by FM stations in AZ and elsewhere. I wonder if there will be any takers in Phoenix?

Pratt, 49, says his new self-funded company, Doublewide Productions, is entertaining offers from local FM stations that may pick up his show.
