Dave's Profile Off K-Rock's Website

I just noticed that too. I didn't find any info about Dave being let go. I guess we will find out tonight if he is on the air.

I didn't hear him on the air at all last night, it was strictly music. So far tonight it is music and station imaging with no jock. Anyone know if/why Dave was let go?

Thanks!

I'm not sure Why Dave was let go, but if I would have to guess, I would say it is part of the CBS Radio Budget Cuts.

That raises a question then...with Dave 'departing', will we see a flip to Free-FM January 1st or sooner? I'm not wishing for it, just wondering if I'm the only one who's thinking along those lines.

With the way the ratings have been for K ROCK, I definitely see a format flip coming very soon. From what I understand, Free FM has not been very successful with other stations across the nation. I'm hoping for the new movin rhythmic hot ac format. It would be nice to have dance music played in the Burgh again.

I agree with you about Free-FM's struggles nationwide, hence why a lot of people refer to it as Free-Fall FM. I can't comment on a Rhythmic Hot AC format because I'm not too familiar with it. What I can say is this: With all the changes on the 93.7 frequency over the past 3-4 years (B94, 93.7 BZZ, B93.7, 93.7 K-Rock), and with the amount of morning shows they've had since K-Rock was born, it is no wonder the ratings have floundered. There hasn't been any consistency, no matter what the format's been over the past few years, whether it be station name or format. I personally don't support a flip because I think K-Rock's a pretty good station, but ratings are the name of the game, and unfortunately we may soon be witnessing another change. If a flip does occur, what format(s) seem like a possibility?

Perhaps some other form of non-political FM talk might work. Free FM is just one brand of non-political talk. It's not the only type of non-political talk possible.

You, and maybe and five or six other people here in Pittsburgh. I understand what it's like to have no stations playing what you personally want to hear just because there aren't enough people here in Pittsburgh to make it commercially viable. The majority of Pittsburghers who would enjoy a "movin rhythmic hot ac format" have taken jobs in other cities and moved away.

With all the changes on the 93.7 frequency over the past 3-4 years (B94, 93.7 BZZ, B93.7, 93.7 K-Rock), and with the amount of morning shows they've had since K-Rock was born, it is no wonder the ratings have floundered.

The thing is, no matter what they call a station, as long as listeners have their radios set with 93.7 as button #3 (or whatever), they'll keep pushing button #3 (or whatever) as long as they like the music they hear on it. The hear people talking about station names, nicknames, etc., you'd think that all the listeners were still turning the rotary knobs on an old Atwater-Kent console in their living rooms, trying get that big needle lined up with the right frequency.

I am still suprised WRKZ lost to WORD FM and WJAS AM. I think at this point in time anything else is bound to work other better than the status quo. Radio Realist has a good point, maybe some type of non political talk other than Free Fall FM will work. Whatever may happen, I am curious to see how this plays out in the long run.

The key word is "maybe". I do not know what will or won't work on 93.7. I don't think anyone alive knows for certain. All that can be done is to try things that make sense to try.

The one thing I am absolutely certain of is that neither a canned, brand-name franschised format nor a custom-tailored, home grown built-for-Pittsburgh format will turn 93.7's ratings around without a serious dedication to some good promotion. Bu "good" I mean a well crafted message, presented in appropriate media, with high levels of repetition.

If they limit themselves to just a few TV spots here and there, a billboard or two in PAT bus stops, and maybe a page in the Pittsburgh City Paper, then they might as well not bother.
