David Boze: One Hour in a Can

I was listening to David Boze on Monday for his "show" (which really should be called "The DB Hour") and I'm beginning to believe that most of the time, he is pre-recorded. I noticed three distinct things:

1. He referred to the arrival of Dave Ramsey on KTTH (replacing John Gibson) as happening "this Monday." Well, that would have been that day. Why didn't he say "today" or "tonight?" Then he added that he was exactly sure when Ramsey would start, but he knew it would be "soon." Meanwhile, I've been hearing liners running saying Ramsey started that Monday during Rush/Medved.

2. Didn't take a single phone call.

3. This is hard to qualify, but the show just sounded "canned." I can't put my finger on it, but there's a distinct difference when someone is "live" and when they are pre-recorded. There just is.

I've also noticed that when he does interviews with authors, those are all pre-recorded and edited to fit into the time allowed as no phone calls are taken for any Q&A.

So, for a person who does a 1-hour show (39 minutes with news/spots) and who "mails it in" (Maybe the PD doesn't care if it's live or Memorex--just as long as there is content), what else does Boze do to justify a F/T position?

Just sayin'...

I'm puzzled ... or my memory's failing me. Hasn't Dave Ramsey been on KTTH a few months now?
He hasn't been on KCIS in a few months, and I thought I'd heard him on KTTH at least a month or two ago. (Not that I keep much track of the talk radio universe.)

If you listen to 97.3 during the sat/sunday slots, you find that most of it is all rolling tape from the earlier week.. So what? The profit margin on ad revenue is less by piece count but higher in total dollars rung up from a 36-48 hour period. . I have to believe that its pumping a few needed dollars into the Bonneville piggy bank. They're taking the higher end numbers off of weekday arb time periods and dumping them into the Saturday and sunday ho-hum slots. Makes sense to me. Radio (like any tech medium) needs bucks from its advertisers to survive and grow. Sure, it sounds condescending and lame but sorry thats the way it is. Do you pay the bills or make the angry crowds less angry? If Rachelle Bell repeats sells refrigerators and pays someones paycheck from a 60 minute repeat and keeps the lights turned on, then dammitt, do it. The recession is in the rear view mirror but we can still see it back there..

The one thing that I notice about KIRO is....I listen less now.

I am a life long KIRO listener. I grew up with my dad listening to 710. It just has always been the station I listened to. I grew up with Wayne Cody doing sports.

But now...the hosts will talk about a topic in the first hour, and then in hour # 3 the topic is repeated via a playback. Sorry, but I already heard it so I tune away. CD. iPod. KOMO.

Now...with the weekends the way they are, I have heard everything so there is zero need for me to listen.

Just my 2 cents. Or one cent.

Who is David Boze?

i really do my best to keep from blasting local radio talents, er lack of. so i'll not comment on boze.

me, a life long KIRO listener since 75. i gave up on these KIRO cats in the early 00's. thanks to XM, and better stuff elsewhere. never to return, except for the occasional check in to see why i never returned.

re: wayne cody, he was one of the radio personality greats in seattle. spent so many nights listening to KIRO sportsline in the 80's, and early 90's while workin' on race cars. i still remember when i got word via cell phone on a camping trip in montana, that wayne cody had passed on. rest in peace buddy!

Bill, I'm not sure if you're joking or not... so I'll bite.

He's been a host on "the Tooth" 770 AM from the flip from news/traffic to conservative talk and ever since. He started in mornings, was sent to afternoons when Glenn Beck was acquired and then eventually got cut down to one hour M-F. His show airs after Michael Medved.
