David Brancaccio To Retire

The longtime host of Marketplace, David Brancaccio, is stepping down from his daily role:

He will turn 66 in May, and will become a special correspondent.

I had wondered if this was coming. It seemed that he was working a 4-day a week schedule this year, apparently taking every Monday off.

Marketplace also recently lost their early-morning host, who was actually a BBC correspondent based in London. Apparently the BBC decided to end that partnership last month. So my money would be on bringing this show back to New York or DC, and reinstating the 5:51am ET feed.

David has been through a lot after losing "everything" when his home burned in the LA wildfires last year. It would not surprise me if either of the temporary new hosts, Sabri Ben-Achour and Amy Scott, become full-time and trade-off on the very early morning shift (especially for Amy in Denver).

I started listening to Marketplace when he was still the evening host, and stayed with it when Kai Rysdaaaal became the host of Marketplaaaace., Great financial reporting across the board. Best wishes to Mr. Brancaccio.
