David, Do you have any history on radio HOG (AM), Panama City, Panama, early 1960's?I was stationed in the Canal Zone 1959-1962 and we GI's listened to English language radio station HOG which played current US Pop/Rock&Roll, it was much better than the AFRTS programming overnights.I'm doing research on 50's/60's pop radio, and would appreciate any knowledge you (or anyone else) might provide.Thanks.

Would this be the station on 1470? I visited it in 1963, when it had a tower made of pipes on the roof of a downtown building, which was typical of all but the larger AMs in Panama City at the time. From my recollection, the station was staffed mostly by Panamenians who knew English from having worked or having had their parents work in the Zone. If you like, I have a fairly complete collection of World Radio Handbooks from the 60's and I can look it up.

Thanks David, that sounds like the one. Not sure of the freq, but I recall the station ID's were in Spanish, and the DJ's patter was in English. The station was very popular with the GI's and didn't sign off at midnight like AFRTS, they were up 24/7. (I ran the xmtr for AFRTS - a Gates BC5P primary, and a 1kw standby at Corazal. Did you ever happen to visit there?) I certainly appreciate any info you might have. Good day.
