David Guetta - Love is Gone - Now #1 on Power 96!

This is great news... South Florida knows how to serve its crossover Dance audience. Kudo's to Power and Y.... ;)

Not yet.... I dont think its that good of a crossover song anyway. I think the piano intro is a bit annoying. Im sure Power 96 could add some Breaks flavor to it and make it fit, but their are so many more better dance songs out there. When the lights go out is nothing ground breaking. Besides that, I dont see Power 96 playing any more than one or two dance songs in rotation at a time, maybe some recurrents during the day as well. Keep in mind, Power is still very much a Latin Flavored Hip Hop station. Even when Power played Dance in the past it still leaned Hip Hop, except for the early years 86-92..... Around 91-93 they started playing alot of that Disposable Miami Bass stuff, which could be considered Rap or Dance. Anyone remember...(BOOM I got your Boyfriend).(I got yo Man).... or that song called Daizy Dukes by Duice.... How about the number one TAG TEAM_Whoomp there it is,,,,,, Followed by 95 South-Woot there it is..... Then there was 69 Boys-Tootsie Roll...... All of those tracks had elements of Urban and Dance to help fuse the Pure Dance and Pure Hip Hop that Power played at the time. We need more Dancy Hip Hop, and its out there, Radio just isnt picking up on it fast enough.

Actually, Power 96 started playing Bass records back around 1988. Some of those records weren't even from Miami. For example, a lot of people here would be surprised to learn that JJ Fad's "Supersonic" made the Top 30 nationally, and it was produced by none other then Dr. Dre:

Around the same time Power 96 also played Afro Rican's "Give It All You Got"

Bass records got played in Miami all the way till the end of the 90s. Clubs all over FL and the South played a lot of Booty/Bass records into the early 2000s. Just like Florida Funky Breaks...

Tag Teams' "Whoomp There It Is" came out around the same time as 95 South's "Whoot There It Is". In fact, they both made the Top 10 at the same time.

As for Power 96's Dance legacy, the station was VERY Dance friendly up until just a few months prior to the launch of Party 93.1. The only year Power sounded more like a typical Rhythmic was sometime in 1993. Then they reverted back to their heritage sound. Same was true for B-96 Chicago around that time.

Yeah, that 1993 part of Power 96 is what I was referring to. Anyway, for B-96 in Chicago, didnt they pretty much revert to just one or two Dance songs an hour twice in the 90s, once around late 92 and 93, then they picked up on the Dance heavy again from 94-96, and early 97, and then they reverted back to playing just one two dance songs an hour until about 2000, yet they still played Boy Bands and girl bands, Brittney, Christina and Spice Girls. I remember them still using the Chicago's Dance Beat slogan, but they were only playing a few true Dance songs an hour in the late 90s. Something else I remember was BOTH B-96 and Power 96 both would sometimes get heavy on Latin Dance, like Artie the One Man Party-ESA NENA LENA. I also think both stations played Razor and Guido-do it again, and ATBs 9:pm till I come. Both B and Power seemed to dump Dance as soon as the markets got Party in Miami, and Energy in Chicago. We are probably better off with getting a few of the biggest Dance records played on Rhythmics and Mainstreams, than to have a Pure Dance station in town with no ratings No Adverts, or no signal keeping the stations that people actually listen to from playing any Dance Records, Remixes, or Dance mixshows. Im only referring to the previous markets like Miami and Chicago whos Rhythmic mainstream Dance Friendly stations dropped Dance upon the Pure Dance arrival which either had no ratings or no signal and didnt help expose Dance to the Masses in the way a Dance Friendly Rhythmic or Mainstream can... Again, im only talking about Miami and Chicago... All the current School station are doing a Fine Job, and do play some mainstream music, Party on Long Island does good for the little signal it has and it exposes Dance to the masses yet has a street sound. Pulse 87 plays alot of mixture of Pop Mixes, original and remixed Hip Hop and R&B, Pure real Dance, Classics, and even some plain old original pop and a very slight touch of Rockb and plus its all scheduled right, they refer to themselves as New Yorks Hit Music with an Edge, but also calls themselves New yorks only real Dance station, (or something like that) the only thing they dont have is a good signal, or frequency since alot of radios especially older ones dont tune lower than 87.9. I honestly think if Pulse had a full power signal on the Empire State Building they would give Z-100 a run for the money (BUT NOT BEAT THEM---DUH, ITS Z-100) and force KTU to switch formats to god knows what.

"Love Is Gone" is also getting a few spins this week on CHR heavyweights Q-102 Philadelphia and 103.5 Kiss FM Chicago, not to mention that it's been gaining more ground on Miami's Y-100 and on B-103.9 Ft. Myers-Naples.

Y-100.7 has a dance mixshow after midnight. Power 96 has a dance friendly mixshow. The other hip hop station 99.1 Jamz doesn't play dance music. 96.5's HD2 is all dance. There's even a pirate station playing dance. Power 96 has its own mix of Love Is Gone that I haven't heard anywhere else.

It's probably the breaks version by Mike D that's on March's Promo Only Dance Radio Cd.

jp

Yeah Chrles, thats what I was gonna say. Plus the mix on Power is a newer Breakbeat mix, I dont think the original version would have faired as well on power, apparently the PD figured that out too. I still wonder why Power doesnt seem to be playing Rhianna's-Dont stop the music. :-\
