David II Inovonics 716

Is there anything that can be done to make the levels better on the David II. I am having an issue with the agc I think. When the audio goes soft it tends to really raise the level to unnatural proportions. I know that Inovonics has really good tech support and I have used them a lot! I was told to try lowering the audio level down to where the meter reads +10 on the AGC . However when the audio is this low the gate will close on softer portions and then raise the level again to unnatural proportions again. This is not a rant about the product or for that matter about Inovonics. Just need some advice I run a LP FM here so we got this because of our budget. Any thoughts. Thanks for your interest in my post :)

Try backing down the adverage compression setting. I'm sure there's some things you can do settings-wise to help but you do have a pretty budget processor. It's simply not going to sound as loud and as good as other options out there for more bucks. If you metally accept that and give up some loudness you'll be happier with the results (if you haven't already made that mental adjustment). If I were a LPFM and buying something new (don't know your situation) I'd strongly consider a Omnia One if you can swing it. That little box is the processing gods gift to small market/LPFM radio. Yes, It's not a full blown Ominia 6 selling for the price of a new car however it WILL make a station sound close enough to the big boys that most listeners can't even tell the difference. Good luck on getting the right sweet spot on the Inovonics...

Yeah I tried that already, I mean backing the Average Compression setting down even down to minimum with same result. I really think it is the AGC. I would love to have something like Omnia One or even an Orban but for the near term it's not within my grasp. Maybe soon. :)

Try BW DSPXmini-FM SE. It has much more comprehensive processing that David and does not suffer from these sorts of problems, yet it's very affordable.
