David Lee For Stern - Joke?

So far, not very entertaining. But it is very interesting to see how they are handling the discontinuation of the Stern Show.

A couple of thoughts:

Why isn't Tom C. making the announcement about the Stern Show?

Funny that they are using 800-44STERN.

The show could be alot more entertaining if they let the callers talk rather than cutting them off when they refer to STERN.
Edited by DiamondJoe on 07/18/05 11:55 AM.

Re: David Lee

This is very obviously a joke...The Chicago affiliate (WCKG) is running "Howard Stern Show" bumper ID's into spots. I'm starting to think the whole David Lee rumor was started by Howard and this joke show is the payoff.

It's a joke...It has to be.

Anyone familiar with their April Fool's Day show featuring Booker & Lopez (late of "Blink FM") will realize this is a joke - only it will just take longer.

Ain't no joke...he's done.
"Best Of" is what other markets are hearing.
WXRK= a 1 share in The Fall

rhat was an interesting bit that I heard on the Stern show...I kind of thought it was a late April Fools joke..they did this last year when they started playing music for an hour......i wonder if howard would have made an announcement about the last show or do they fire the whole show without notice?

I'm correcting myself...

It was actually "Cross & Lopez" - PD Robert Cross and K-Rock DJ Danni - so obviously you would see why I would get confused on a forgettable memory such as that. ;)
______________

When Stern's Last Show Does Air.....

Although Howard Stern is under contract to Infinity through December, I don't think he'll be staying there that long.

I think he'll be leaving his Infinity show sometime early this Fall.

And I expect that he will give at least a few days' warning, so his "Farewell To Commercial Radio" can become a heavily-hyped event both on his affiliated stations and in the news media.

In fact, Stern may give several weeks' notice when he announces the date of his last live Infinity show. For the up to two dozen stations who will likely change formats after Stern leaves, this would give them time to plan for a format change.

And those stations that plan to change formats can begin their format-change stunts the minute Stern signs-off his live Infinity show for the final time.

why not?after the very non entertaining "bit" I heard this morning,if I was Infinity I would keep him on till the end.

I really hope they give him warning. It would leave a really bad taste in my mouth if they just pulled the plug. As for David Lee Roth, what a horrible choice. Does he even have Radio talent?

Joe, you seem to have this idea that nearly all the stations that Stern is on right now are going to flip as soon as Stern exits. Let's look at the other side of this. It could be the perfect opportunity for stations to rebuild from within by way of creating a new morning show, tweaking the music, having more promotions, etc. Inevitably, some stations will flip, but not all of them, especially right away. Both WXRK and WBCN/Boston have already been retooling their on-air products so that people will listen throughout the day as opposed to just the morning. Stations such as WYSP/Philadelphia and WCCC/Hartford are established rock stations and are likely to survive. Let's not think that all these stations are going to tank once Stern leaves. Will some listeners leave, yes, but many listeners who don't already have a Sirius system yet aren't going to buy one just to listen to Stern. Only the real die-hards will. The rest will hang around the "terrestrial" FM and give the next morning team a chance.

First of all if he gets taken off early it will not be his decision so he will not know, and so he will not be givin any heads up because he will have no idea when/if they are going to pull the plug on him. That wont happen, he will remain on until December 31st because it is well known that he is going to sirius, Inifinity loses nothing by keeping him on, they take him off and they lose millions in revenue. THAt will not happen.

See above paragraph.

You have zero idea of what you're talking about, you are literally just pulling these ideas out of thin air. Which specific "two dozen" stations will change formats? give specific call letters that you think will be changing?. I ask this not to single any stations out or embarrass them but I know that Joeseph Gallant has no factual basis for that statement other than his own imagination. Two dozen stations? what are they and what are their formats?.

You do not know what you are talking about.

As for the non-Infinity Stern affiliates, I think that some of them will slide in another syndicated show like Bob and Tom.

You're all forgetting one thing..

Stern's last Infinity show, if the contract is carried out to the end, will happen right around Christmas..I'm guessing December 16..a Friday..since Stern usually takes the final two weeks of the year off..which means a final two weeks of chopped up ''Best Of''...or the beginning of a whole new game for the 40 or so stations still on board at the end..
