David Lee Roth on WYSP!

It's 6:15am, Roth has been on 15 minutes. Is this for real? Was Chauncey right? I'm not sure this show can last out the day, much less until next year, so far a terrible show, a bad Greaseman immitation. If I was YSP I'd already be pushing the panic button. I keep waiting for Howard to come on & say its a joke! Maybe this is an immitator and Howard's playing with us. This all sounds pre-recorded!
Edited by John1 on 07/18/05 10:16 AM.

6:25am: Just checked the WXRK & WYSP websites, both show the Howard Stern show is on right now. Wouldn't he be deleted from the sites if gone? YSP is running a Howard voiced Reedman commercial. Hopefully we'll learn its a joke soon!

Re: David Lee Roth on WYSP! Joke!

Thank God it was just a joke! Will this kill the chances of David Lee Roth getting the show now?

My God, is your life so meaningless that you needed to post on top of yourself three times for a stunt pulled by a stale, tired jock? And thank whatever diety you believe in that your demi-god here on earth Howard is still on the air. You better have that sirius hooked up to your veins I would hate to see what would happen if you went a day without the almighty Stern.

People are so funny sometimes.

The rumor mill has DLR being groomed to replace Stern in some markets. I hope Philly isn't one of them. As I said in another thread, IMO:

"Roth is, at best, a good 3 minute interview. He spews out a stream of cryptic rhetoric that sounds kind of cool, briefly, but really means nothing. He's been laying out the same stuff for 20 years and it's really tired. He's completely phoney and I doubt he has a real personality under all that blather. Part of Stern's genius is coming off like he's being totally honest and real. Dave doesn't have a sincere bone in his body and couldn't even fake it if his life depended on it. I predict that the villagers will storm the stations with torches and pitch forks before his first show finishes".

Nobody that replaces Stern will embraced his listeners. Love him, hate him, or both, he changed radio and has one of the most successful and enduring shows ever. He has many rabid mignons that will find anything but Howard acceptable, which is kind of sad for them, really. I'll bet Infinity knows that and are preparing Roth, and probably others to be sacrificial lambs. At least, that's what I think.

Re: David Lee Roth on WYSP! Joke!

Hope he was being 'funny'. My posts were written to the relevance of a radio board, not to 'the big picture' of life. NOTHING that ANYONE posts about here is really important or meaningful, it's for FUN, about radio. Admittedly it's all meaningless, but we all keep posting here anyway.

That being said, IF the #1 morning entertainment show for many years in this and many other markets had suddenly been cancelled today, it WOULD be a big story in the world of radio. My posts were 'as it happened' (disregarding the odd post times that come up) when I first heard the show, then realized it had to be fake, then after Howard came on. The "thank God" remark was made to be a joke (I hear Howard & other non-believers use that phrase all the time & just threw it in), and more a comment to how bad a DLR show could be if anything like this morning's put-on, not necessarily how good Howard's been lately. I have listened since day 1 at WNBC but have not listened to the whole show in a long time like I used to - I pretty much tune in on my commute & for Robin's news & Howard's commentary, still my favorite part of the show. But while Howard was off I tuned around and found no replacement that held my interest.

Howard said that DLR WILL replace him in some markets, and I can't imagine the real show to be much better than the impersonation today. If this really happens, it will shake things up, but where else will people go? This town is full of recycled morning shows - Preston & Steve, DeBella, Evans & Andie, Carter & Sanborn - where's the fresh talent?

Yeah, bring on the fresh talent, so they too may be ripped to shreds by the experts this board is so fortunate to have.
I don't mean that in a bad way.

Who cares if new talent gets ripped to shreds. No jock with a brain takes radio boards seriously. It's mostly a forum for radio geeks, frustrated people in the business, and curious outsiderrs. It's just for fun. It's a pastime. It's a place to vent, or speculate, or find common interests or get validationn for your ideas. Don't get too caught up in it. It has now effect on the businesss. I've been a radio geek since I was 10. I spent many years working in radio. I've seen good times and bad. I like reading and posting here, but I don't believe that jocks or PDs read the criticism here and change their programming based on it, any more than they react to the 2 percent of listeners who use the request lines. The average person doesn't call stations or post on the boards. Radio is background to most listeners. Half the time they don't even know what station they are listening to.

If programmers paid attention to these boards....every last station would be some form of Urban, Hispanic, CHR/Rhythmic or Dance...all rock stations and anything targetting listeners over 30 would be either banished to the non-comm or AM bands, if not totally eliminated from the airwaves altogether.
______________
