David Letterman Retires

NBC showed some of Dave's best Late Night episodes until Conan started, including the first full week during the same week Dave started The Late Show on CBS.

WMC in Memphis was notorious for pushing Late Night back at first for 30 minutes, then an hour in later years. During the time while the best Late Night episodes were being shown WMC dropped it completely. Yet when Conan started WMC started carrying it in pattern. There was talk that WMC's station manager at the time didn't like Dave for some reason and the more viewers complained the worse he got to the point of dropping the classic repeats completely. :mad: I usually could watch Late Night at the correct time from WPSD in Paducah, KY though, who carried it at the right time.
 
Early in his CBS run, Letterman used to introduce the "Top 10 List" saying it was from the "home office in...." Sioux Falls, Omaha... I forget exactly but someplace like that. In any case, it was the largest market in which the local CBS affiliate did not carry the show.
 
It was Sioux City, where the CBS affiliate was 14/KMEG. They were getting good ratings with some sit-coms from 10:30-11:30pm (I don't remember what) and wanted to delay Letterman to 11:30. CBS said no, it had to run live, so KMEG continued with the sit coms for a year before picking up Letterman.

did some other station pick Dave up for the first year?
 
CBS' Late Show with David Letterman ended, Stephen Colbert takes over the Show this September. After 33 years in late night, David Letterman retired.
