David Letterman's Desk Microphone

While watching Letterman tonight. It seems that he has a slightly different microphone on his desk. Wonder what happened to the previous one.

If you notice, Dave wears a lavaliere mike. The mike on his desk is merely a prop...

I heard something about the desk mic that was seen during Dave's years at NBC was originally used by none other than Johnny Carson when The Tonight Show was still originating from New York.<P ID="signature">______________

I watched Dave last night. Yes, indeed, there was a different, more modern looking mic on his desk. The original RCA mic did actually work. He would occasionally hit it with a pencil or yell into it. That is til Penn & Teller were on one night. They opened the mic up and it was filled with roaches - bugs that is.
