David Muir New Weekend Anchor at ABC

While he has been anchoring the weekend World News for a while, I noticed this past weekend that the title of the broadcast is now being called "World News with David Muir."

Could this is the signal that Muir will be Diane Sawyer's replacement once she retires?

There is no question Muir is quite good. He's clear, concise, and shows just the right amount of emotion when reading news. However, once again, the questions comes up, how important is network evening news in 2011? I would bet most affiliates would love to get that half hour back for themselves. I know, the end of network news has been predicted for decades, but I think we are much closer to it now. (and Sawyer retiring? Have not heard that one yet)

They signaled that job is currently spoken for some time ago.

He does a good job. I first noticed him when he was doing the overnight news.
Hey if you can be good at 3am..................7pm is even better.

I also first saw David on "World News Now", which has been quite a starting point for network newspeople over the years.

They made an official announcement about David doing both weekend "World News" casts (he was only doing Saturday before, I believe), and about his name being added.

I don't know if this pushes him ahead in the Will Replace Diane Sawyer Some Day sweepstakes, but it certainly can't hurt his chances.

David went to the network after leaving WCVB-ABC/Boston. He was a reporter and either filled in as anchor or was weekend anchor, can't recall.

David Muir is good at ABC!

David Muir is by far a better anchor that Diane Sawyer. Personally I can't wait for the day Sawyer retires and Muir takes her place.

I think George Stephanopoulos will be Diane Sawyer's replacement.

While ABC News is my primary network news source and I don't follow NBC or CBS, ABC has been doing a good job of grooming their anchors to take on more responsibilities.
