David Munoz????

What happened to David Munoz's Sat nite jazz and why hasn't anyone said anything about it being replaced by, you guessed it, MORE 80's MUSIC! But I have to admit that for the few previous months before its demise, I could swear that the show was a repeat from 2 weeks before, with the exception of the commercials being updated. Since I work nights, I used to listen every other Sat night and there were some Sat night's that seemed like dejavu. Don't we have enough 80's music already with Jack fm and that excruciatingly repetitive and banal Tragic 105.3? How can that excuse for a station stay on the air with such a bland playlist? I have have more variety in my music collection than they play. I like 80's music to an extent, but not all of the time. When I was young in the early 70's, KTSA used to have a retro 1950's weekend, when they would air music and commercials from that time period. I recall that my parents enjoyed that, but to me the music sounded so alien and archaic. But now its 2008 and I still hear music from 1988 and before. The strange thing about it now is eventhough its over 20 years old, its sounds like some contemporary music of today. I'm talking about regular music, not that modernized beatnik ranting accompanied by a mobile low freq earthquake that seems to be misguiding our youth. Anyway, what happened to David. Is he still at CC or doing something completely different?

First off, Jazz seems to be on it's last legs. Numerous stations around the country have dumped the format. Q still has the Sunday morning Jazz but for how long remains to be seen. Second, the variety of 80's music that Jack and Magic fail in comparison to Q101.9. I said this in past thread but Q101.9 has a HUGE 80's playlist from Def Leppard, Van Halen, Toni Basil, Culture Club, The Vapors, The Cure, Stacy Q, Milli Vanilli and many others.

Thank you for the info about Sun morning jazz. I forgot that it was still around. After I get off work on Sun, in the early AM, I am hauled off to church to be subjected to hellfire and brimstone until noon, so no chance to hear it. I think the demos are a little off, though. My friends and I love instrumental jazz but are about a decade away from the 55+ crowd. And they have lots of friends our age who always have the Sirius/XM on the jazz channel.
On the same subject, does anyone remember the original jazz station from back in 1979/80, KTUF 106.something? They used to play a great mix of instrumental jazz and jazz oriented music, sort of similar to what David Munoz puts together, but alot better. KCJZ was ok at first, but it got old fast. I had a girlfriend once who didn't like or understand instrumental jazz. She used to call it 'music without words'. What did she know? All she listened to was Y100 and Bessie the cash cow.

What station was he on? I used to work with David at KTUF and was on-air during the time they were playing contemporary jazz/adult contemporary working 7 to midnight. That was 106.7FM and the transmitter was in Terrell Hills.
Dave Munoz came from KTFM and had not worked jazz before working at KTUF. He worked morning drive during my time there. Tom Poe was the Program Director and did a good job of music availability and clocks that allowed the DJ's to have the freedom to shape the sound of their shows. I used to write down all the music I played by hour and still have that list somewhere around the house.
The freedom to choose music within Poe's guidelines was nice as I had come over from KRTU, working at Trinity's radio station. Back then it was playing jazz at night and on weekends. Other times it was dedicated to operas and classical music.
Jazz has never been a real mainstream seller. I was surprised that KTUF lasted as long as it did.
