David O’Leary Joins WCRB As Morning Host

Laura Carlo was let go a few months ago. How much did GBH/CRB save by replacing her with David O'Leary?

Let's hope 'CRB (Which is owned by GBH) doesn't have to cut on-air tallent with funding cuts to public TV and radio - even GBH isn't immune...

WGBH lost almost $20 million, almost all in TV. So there will likely be TV cuts at some point:

MassachusettsBostonWGBHOther System Support$122,671
MassachusettsBostonWGBHRadio Community Service Grant$1,109,172
MassachusettsBostonWGBHTelevision Community Service Grant$7,516,366
MassachusettsBostonWGBHTelevision Programming$10,691,899

They just cut 45 jobs in June:

David is a vast improvement over Laura Carlo.

Now if only they could get more adventurous with their playlist.

They play the same pieces over and over like a top 40 station.

It's sad that classical music and the people who program and play it -- about as non-"woke" (whatever that means) a genre as you'll find -- are becoming collateral damage in the administration's war on public broadcasting's news programming.

There are some months WCRB's ratings rival many other Boston commercial stations. Their playlist aside, I've always thought they offered a breezy and modern presentation compared to other classical stations and I think we're lucky to have them, especially now with David O'Leary joining the ranks.
