"David" on WBAP??

Was listening to WBAP Monday night after 9 p.m. A host named "David" taking calls on 787-1820 so it sounded local, but one of the callers said he was from Atlanta...the host never gave his last name in the 20 or so minutes I listened. The guy was making some really racist remarks about Mexicans, and said that London (because of black and muslim immigrants) has a higher crime rate than New York City (not true), and the implication was that NYC was absolutely the most dangerous city in the USA (again, not true)...and the "red states" are safer (not true). The he blasted the Dallas media for focusing on the out-of-town-cop who was killed and his widow but not mentioning that THE KILLER WAS AN ALIEN. (Funny, I don't remember the trial having occurred yet.) Then various callers gave anecdotes of how most of the Mexicans they knew hired other illegal aliens or (gasp) sent money OUT OF THE COUNTRY to their relatives in Mexico, or somebody knew somebody who had a sister who married a Mexican and he beat her up...

1. Who is this "David" guy?

2. Does WBAP EVER put anyone on the air who is not a liar?

3. How does such programming content serve the public interest or make for a better community?

> 1. Who is this "David" guy?

Hmm... according to WBAP.com (which is the first place I looked, and it took me all of 5 seconds to find the answer), it's David Gold. You obviously have the internet... how come you couldn't find that?

> 2. Does WBAP EVER put anyone on the air who is not a liar?

Yes, they do. It's just that you assume all conservatives are liars. That assumption is false. Only 74.8% of conservatives are liars, compared to the 75.3% of liberals who are liars.

> 3. How does such programming content serve the public
> interest or make for a better community?

Who says radio has to serve the public interest or make for a better community?

Finally, until we see a transcript of the show, to see what exactly was said, and not what you say you heard, then all judgement must be postponed.
______________

You are absolutely right.

But if you are going to call someone a racist liar, shouldn't you at least look up the persons name?

**Disclaimer**
I don't know if David Gold is a racist liar or not. I am simply holding that if you are going to insult someone, at least know who you are talking about before doing so.

I plugged 9:00 PM WBAP into Google which returned this as the
first hit:

http://wbap.fimc.net/showdj.asp?DJID=24168

The Jerry Doyle Show airs Monday-Friday from 9:00 PM – 12:00 Midnight.

so I assumed it was a substitute host.

There's tons on websites documenting the lies of Rush Limbaugh,
Sean Hannity, etc. But you'll never get past their
screeners or digital cutoffs. Several friends tried to get on
Mark Davis to ask why, in his support for the "sanctity of
marriage" he divorced his wife with MS and was seen dating
around before his divorce was final. Their digital censorship
is so seamless that the listeners never knew a the call was
even made.

That's weird... I see:

The Jerry Doyle Show
Weekdays: 10:00 PM - 12:00 AM

and on another page:

David Gold
Weekdays: 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM

There are also sites documenting the lies of Al Franken, Alan Colmes, Howard Dean, John Kerry, and even Hillary Clinton. So what? OMG, somebody lied on air? Someone on the radio said something that is not the truth? Call the CFE and the FCC and the IRS and the AMA and the KFC and get these unholy, free speaking, tax paying, doc shopping imbeciles of the air and get some damn chicken up in here!

BTW, still lookin for a transcript of what was actually said on the show you say you heard. Got that yet?

Yeah... cuz their doing a real fantastic job of paying attention to community standards, aren't they? Gimme a break. FCC oversight is about two things, and two things only : Money, and placation. You try to maintain a hold over as much money as possible, and you do anything you can to placate the 0.5 % of the populous that bitches about programming.

It's not freedom of speech that has Howard Stern running scared to Sirius, it's the overwhelming threat of three pissed off fat women in Hoboken getting the FCC to shut him down.
______________

Bingo has made some good points. David Gold made Talk radio at KLIF back in the 80's a big success. David like Rush, Boortzand will say outtrageous statements( Al Franken too;) )to get you to talk about their shows, plus sell a few books they wrote. Very simple formula. Thye deal with 15% fact, 75% personal opinion, and 10% fantasy. What is sad is a lot of Amercians get their information from Talk radio no matter how distorted it is on either side of the political spectrum.

I don't think this has anything to do with ABC being 'lax' ahead of the
company sale. The original poster was confused as to who was on the air.
Rather than look up WBAP on Google, the search for 9:00 PM WBAP was made
and the page that ropertex looked at was actually the bio for Jerry Doyle.

This is a page of the WBAP site and at the bottom of the page as part of the bio, it is listed incorrectly as Monday-Friday 9:00 - 12:00 Midnight. However, at the top of the page directly under Jerry's name it does say the correct time of Weekdays: 10:00 PM - 12:00 AM.

Who knows who wrote the bio and when. Lax on ABC's part? Absolutely. But
no one knows if it has anything to do with the sale or just an oversight.

I would say looking at the program schedule would have answered the question
right away, that way the original poster would not have had to assume
anything. I always find whenever I assume something - I am usually wrong -
especially when it comes to matters in radio.

Not to mention what assume does - and I know I just made myself out to be one!

Sorry, I had to cut in this dance...

From what I am told about Mark Davis and this is a close friend to Davis, it is my understanding that Davis and his (at the time) Wife came to an agreement to part ways because of her sickness. Davis still takes an interest in her health and makes sure that she is comfortable as the sickness deteriorates her. I'm willing to believe this person's story since I know that he talks to Davis on a regular basis. I have no idea where the image was painted that his wife became sick, he looks to her "screw you, I still have a life" and moves on with his newest love and Wife and new child.

If two adults can come to grips that the future is grim, at least they as adults were mature enough about it to make alternate plans in their lives. Good for them!

As why it never gets on the air, is it really the public's interest that he has to explain everything in his life?

As for the FCC... If you read you hand-book "The New Area of the FCC after 1996" you'll see that the FCC has dropped the required materials to make the community a better place. One PSA a week will do fine. Even when I was told that I had to read a PSA, All I had to say is "Stop illiteracy" there's your required one PSA for the week! 3 sec out of my shift just to make the community a better place.

As for stats and who's killing who, it's a proven fact that poor people tend to get in to more legal woes for petty crimes to murder than more educated or financially well off people do. However there is always an exception to the rule! Ron Kirk would be a perfect example! Your rag to riches story!

Thanks for the dance, you were very fluid on you feet!
