David Stein

Does anyone have any thoughts on David Stein leaving SNR to do a general talk show with Black Card? I know I am going to miss listening to his show. Does anyone have an affilate list yet?

Sporting News is on in less than 10 markets and David will be on in less than that.

Do you mean of say the top 20 markets? I'm almost certain he was on about 75 stations nationwide but with many, many tiny affiliates. However, his new company will be hard pressed to even approach of half of that. What's really the incentive for stations to opt for a change in their overnight programming? If they have to buy time, that will kill any profits. I think this show will hang around for a year or two and then just fade away.
If I was his affiliate person, I would be marketing towards the Christian Talk Radio stations. Try to cut a deal with Salem.

I think "Winner, Winner- Chicken Dinner!" got old after about two seconds and Stein should never be allowed to sit behind a microphone again.

I listened to John Harris for about 1.5 hours this morning. He has replaced David Stein. Not too bad.

I just read online David Stein's new show is off the air. It appears to be from lack of sponsors. I'm not sure if this is permanent.

Even though I did not enjoy that style of show, I'm saddened that he is not working.

This situation has me baffled. He quits Sporting News Radio..with plenty of notice, over 6 weeks from the pr/news stories. He launches a new show and it's cancelled after 8 weeks because of a lack of sponsors. With a niche show like his, I'm shocked they couldn't appeal to some non-traditional advertisers and at least secured some 13 and 26 week agreements. This seems to me like one of the bigger bust situations I have ever seen/heard in syndicated radio. I'm sure there's been some quick cancels before but how many of those left on their own a stable position for a new show and then couldn't last two months?

I'm sure David Stein on April 1st thought he was the most popular host on SNR even if his audience didn't cross over to the other programs.
I wonder if he might shake off the overly positive facade for a moment and question if he was talked into a raw deal.

i dont think he had a chance. Its a tough marketplace for his show.

I'm a very cynical, misanthropic person who has always thrived on negativity, and as I've shown in other posts, I fall firmly into the "you talk about sports on sports radio, not your personal life" camp.

So I can say that I am very happy that not only is Stein off the air on SNR/Yahoo! Sports, but that his new show is also off the air and Stein is apparently finished on national radio.

So ya wanna know something positive in my life, Dave? You, and your insulting "detox from negativity" are off the air for good.

I completely agree with FM 100 Means Music. I have no idea how he held national sports show for so long with his format.

He was doing overnights on the lowest rated of the three national sports radio networks. You could stick a Emergency Broadcast System recording on SNR from 1AM - 4AM and if it got at least a 0.01, it would be considered a success.

The fact that Stein went from weekends on FOX to replacing Tony Bruno to being reduced to overnights on SNR makes me wonder who the hell thought it was a good idea to let him syndicate his own show.

Just an FYI, Dave's apparently been reduced to working an Auburn Tigers gameday show.
