David's been gone 5 years now....

THE voice of reason.
His voice may have been of reason, I'm not sure about the rest of him. But he is missed.

I've never heard a single call ask a question about the latter part of his life, which is kind of strange?
Shortly before his death he had one of Al Gores daughters on. If you know how he felt about Al, maybe you would find this as bizarre as I did. But I guess that was David.

What does that mean?

Ummmm....what would they ask?

I've known David to have a lot of people on he disagreed with.

* Well that's hardly the point. Would you do a show whose host regards your parents as "loathsome?" Gore (Al) was despised by Brudnoy.
* Davids courtly on-air persona differed from an apparently reckless personal life. At least with regard to his health. He'd likely be on-air this evening, if that were not the case. Again, he's missed.

Have another glass of Haterade. It goes well with judgmental. Bruds was a class act libertarian when there were none on local radio. While we're at it, I miss Gene Burns as well.

If I was Brudnoy, and had a chance to have them on, yes.

If I were the daughters, I don't know why I would go on. Did they have a book to hawk? Did some publicist set them up?

David was polite in person as well, probably more polite than his on-air personna.

If I read the time line right, David contracted the disease at a time when little was known about the disease, and how it was contracted. He was no more reckless than most others at the time, and from what I read, even now.

It goes well with judgmental.
-------
I've probably heard him do 50 HIV shows after '83. Since I don't know when (82-87?) he was infected --it may be in his book?-- I'm assuming it was after he started actively broadcasting about it. He obviously made a mistake: is that a judgment too? Keep in mind that he was probably the #1 purveyor of information on the subject in the East.

David contracted the disease at a time when little was known
--------
He had friends/acquaintances who were getting sick. He knew and it was in his and his friend's interest to find out everything he could as quickly as possible.

No, he was infected before he ever did a show on it. And, yes, please read the book. It will answer most of your questions.

And you are assuming he didn't?

The early years when aids appeared, no one was sure what it was or how it was transmitted. Even after the virus was discovered, they were not sure if it could be transmitted by a coffee cup, toilet seat, or a kiss.

Mos to the early deaths were people who were infected in the very late 70's early 80's, when it wasn't even a blip on the radar screen.
