I have not updated to my Production Software since I bought Cool Edit 2000. So I’m researching new/up to date Audio Production Software. I’m looking for local input and I’m hopping some of you have home studios. What is good, stable and flexible, with a good intuitive interface. And most important keeps production director in his studio instead of in engineering. This would be for some one that does not want to invest in Pro-tools or Nuendo. Small-Medium station or Non-Profit budget. Trying to stay under $400.
 
If you like Cool Edit, buy Adobe Audition. Same program and interface - new name and company. $349 for a new copy (they don't offer upgrades from CE any more).If you want a good multitrack on the cheap, you can't beat the no-charge open-source Audacity editor (http://audacityteam.org/)
 
I second the nomination for Adobe Audition, I used cool edit often and love what Adobe has done to the software (BESIDES raise the price 200%).Sonar is pretty decent as well.
 
Adobe Audition...despite the price it's almost the de-facto industry standard. Comes w/tons of great standard features that "cheaper" software consider "upgrades/plug-ins".
