Just be glad you don't live in L.A. where your only choice (on a terrestrial basis) would be 100.3 The Sound KSWD where those cuts and hundreds of others like them are the bread and butter of The Sound's playlist. Having said that, You Wreck Me and Remedy are good songs at home on any AAA format. Most AAA stations play those and over the years many have added playing LaGrange. I sampled "Quality Rock 93.3" yesterday (what a lame name, real original huh?) and they are too safe for my ears. I know stations like this have to be more on the safe side for a huge market, but gee whiz wayyyyy too boring!

I totally agree. Way to bland for my taste.

ok then, don't know if anyone caught that kid rock classic, i don't know the name of it but it's that skinnyrd/levon mash up. REALLY?!

Have to disagree, ZZ Top is always welcome. No matter how "old" the classic rock station's intended era is you can't go wrong with more ZZ Top.......and a bunch of Pink Floyd, and a ton of SRV as well. Just remember to throw all the Beatles crap in the trash. ;D

A website I found with a list of formats -- http://www.ibuytime.com/formats.htm -- describes AAA as:

Adult Album Alternative - Target Demo: 25-54 - Also known as AAA (Triple A), this genre offers a hybrid of modern rock, progressive, alternative and classic rock music aimed at an older target audience with both modern rock and active rock.

So, I guess some Classic Rock fits the format but I would hardly call Heart's 'Magic Man' an album alternative.

From this morning's play list, I'm likin': The Fray, The Cure, Dido, Sheryl Crow, Blind Melon, Lucinda Williams, The Police, Marc Cohn, Coldplay, Lenny Kravitz, Paul Simon, Smashing Pumpkins, Train, The Verve, Jack Johnson, Gin Blossoms, R.E.M., U2, and Counting Crows.

Do any of you do anything but b!tch? I know some of you were stating a while back, that it would be nice to have a AAA station here in DFW. Now that you have one, you criticize the hell out of it! What would you do if you won some money? Complain about the color of it? Complain that you wanted hundreds instead of twentys? Complain that the money is too wrinkled? I swear, I think some of you have 24 hour PMS. Complain, complain, complain..........

That one is Classic Rock, so if AAA includes Classic Rock, then I can see why they have it on the playlist.

Amen on the PMS thing, agree completely. Some people just want to b*tch.

And it's funny, because I haven't heard them describe themselves as a triple A station. Quality rock is in the eye of the beholder, isn't it? People said 'oh they're triple A' and now are bitching that they aren't Triple A enough. Aren't 'pure' triple a, etc.

I've noticed the classic rock and some harder stuff than I would have expected from a "pure" triple A station. Which tells me that maybe they didn't just cookie cutter this (hard to believe, i know, coming from Cumulus) but actually thought about what they're putting on the playlist.

There's a lot less soft (chick) rock (10,000 Maniacs, Shawn Colvin, Sarah Mclachlan, Dunacn Sheik, Lisa Loeb, etc) than I might expect from a triple A (i.e.- those were all Zone favorites IIRC)

But let's say they're targeting a 35 year old guy. There's a lot of late 90's rock that the guy grew up on and newer stuff that he's probably aware of/listens to. But there's a mix of old alternative (Elvis Costello, Clash, Police early REM, etc) that were recurrents in the late 80's.

But it's all rock. Last time I listened to Jack they played some metal, some bad 80's alternative (Dexy's midnight runners? PLEASE NO!!!) some dance/disco, etc...

FM93.3's website is up and running and here is how they describe themselves...

NOTE TO OUR LISTENERS, NEW AND OLD

At 5:00am Monday morning, Cumulus Dallas launched a new radio station “FM 93.3 Quality Rock.”

FM 93.3 Quality Rock will air a great blend of rock music from adult alternative to Classic Hits and feature great bands like Dave Matthews Band, REM, Coldplay, The Police, U2, Van Morrison and more. FM 93.3 Quality Rock starts each day with “The Regular Guys” morning show and then kicks off the music day at 9am.

I am personally inviting you to listen and try our new station and invite friends to do the same.

Sincerely,

Dan Bennett
Vice President/Market Manager
Cumulus Media, Dallas/Fort Worth

Show me the link to any radio station that does "describe themselves as a triple A station".

You mean to listeners, or within the industry?

The phrase has no meaning to listeners. That's why AAA stations use "World Class Rock" or "Quality Rock" a lot. Cumulus' KFOG has used both over the years...

At The Point in Vermont we're rather proud of having been voted R&R's Small Market AAA Station Of the Year for the last 4 years, but even so we use World Class Rock on the air.

Welcome to Dallas, Zeb. Seeing as how your station is a AAA format, what is your opinion of the songs being played on KDBN? You can find the music history at www.yes.com. I am interested to hear your take on what they are doing.
