And if you can break away from Superbore 43, I'm spinning a full hour of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper on Sunday evening's Hi-Fi Club on KMNY 1360AM...and not just their Top 10 hits. That's this Sunday, 6-7PM on 1360, and streaming at www.thehificlub.net.

Nah, unfortunately we're pretaped these days, and the show's already in the can. Bud Buschardt sat in with us last year at this time and brought something that sounds like what you're talking about. It was Buddy with a prepubescent, VERY soprano voice...hard to believe it morphed into the voice we came to know and love later. (I woulda replayed last year's show, but it was dubbed straight off the radio and the quality sucks!)

Going up against the Superbowl, I didn't want to put a whole lot of effort in, but I did pick some pretty decent stuff, most off the later-released remasters, AND you'll hear it in glorious AM, like you would have when it was all new! :)

I'll have to check that out, I agree the Bowl is likely going to be a bore.

I did catch an interview during my insomnia last night, on Coast To Coast AM. George Noory had Peggy Sue (Buddy Holly's girlfriend) and Donna (Ritchie Valens' girlfriend) on, it was interesting.

Wow, 50 years.

I used to work for a guy who went to high school with Ritchie and Ritchie's girlfriend, Donna (yeah, from the song) and knew them both well. This was back in 1990-91, so I wasn't even thinking about putting his memories on tape, or about the future with websites or radio shows or Radio-Info. :'(

Back in the 80's, my parents joined a Country Club in the area, and said that Maria was a member. I think they said she played tennis....

Me, RB McEntire and Chad Stevens did a 1 hour speical for WW1. We've had it bagged for quite some time, but I'm pretty proud of it. Check it out at www.rowdyyates.com in the specials section.

*If anybody is interested in running it, it it good through next weekend, and has 15 minutes for local avails. Just holler at me.

Yeah, Josh, I heard it was going to be a great show! Wish I'd known about it in time; I could have run it instead of "Hi-Fi" yesterday (Sunday.) But I couldn't have offered you more than a timeslot against the Superbowl...so hopefully John Summers or Jaan McCoy will get with you so it can get a prime spot and slot here in DFW.

And glad to hear RB is staying busy. Talk about getting the shaft from radio after 40 years.

I'm having my own little Ritchie Renaissance myself...I never really knew what a skilled and awesome guitarist he was. I've been downloading all the instrumentals of his I can find, and they're all pretty damn incredible...ESPECIALLY from a 17 yr old kid!

Will you do the same for Otis Redding or Sam Cooke

I see where you're going with this. Valens might not have been your 'color of choice,' but was well-included in the last show. Redding and Cooke were talked about extensively on the shows that corresponded to their passings. Since 'The Day the Music Died' had a major anniversary, yes, it's going to get extra attention. And I'm sure with the 45th anniversary of Cooke's passing coming up in December, yes, we'll do something extra then as well. We've showcased many a Black artist and group, including Levi Stubbs and the Four Tops when Levi passed recently, and same for a Motown salute when Norman Whitfield passed last year, and the same for Marvin Gaye last April. With 25 years coming up for Marvin in April, I'm sure we'll do something even more intense then as well.

Please don't play that with me. There were MANY contributors to rock-n-roll, of all races, and the roots of R&R undisputably came from R&B. That fact has never been forgotten by me or the show. You should listen in sometime.

Yeah nip in the bud. The Hi Fi club has done tributes to may black artists, ,etc. as Mike has pointed out. The 50th anniversary of Buddy's passing is a milestone for his music still holds up and Paul McCartney owns the rights to them. Buddy's music has been recorded by the Beatles, Peter and Gordon, Blind Faith, The Rolling Stones,Leo Sayer and Linda Ronstadt to name a few . Sam Cooke has been recorded by Cat Stevens, Tony Orlando and Dawn,Simon and Garfunkle with James Taylor, and Herman's Hermits to name a few more. So I am sure Sam Cooke will have his spotlight upon the 45th anniversary of his passing on the Hi Fi club. BTW he was shot in a motel room while having an affair. Sam also had a backup singer who had a few hits of his own named Lou Rawls.
So history of music is presented based on historical significance not physical characteristics.
