Daylight Saving Time / VCR Question Part 2

Back in March I asked the question in a thread about how with the earlier start for DST if VCRs that set the time from a signal from a TV station would change correctly. As it turned out the local station in my area didn't change its signal and I had to change my VCRs and DVD recorder manually until the first weekend in April when DST would have taken effect in the past. In that thread nobody posted saying that their VCRs reset correctly and everyone who posted said they reset their VCRs and DVD recorders manually.

Now that we are at the weekend that DST would have changed in the past the question becomes will there be a problem with VCRs resetting a week too early because TV stations sat on their backsides and still did nothing to fix the problem with the time signals on their side? I'll be watching to see what happens with my VCRs and DVD recorder.

Or learn to live with the wrong time for at least a week ;D

I had to set my VCR manually this morning

Out of the 2 VCRs and one DVD recorder that I have connected at the present time (One is currently disconnected) one VCR and the DVD recorder changed their times last night. The other VCR was on a digital tuner and not tuned to the correct channel for the time signal, so it didn't change. I'll probably leave them the way they are except for the one VCR that I actually do timed recording on until the actual time change next week.

One odd thing was that the DVD recorder was also connected to a digital tuner and not on the correct channel, but the time still changed. Could this be because either the digital tuner also transmits a time signal, or that the time change is programmed into the recorder?

If the time change is programmed into the recorder, then I know there is probably no way to change this, but are TV stations that transmit time signals ever going to fix this, or will the auto time set feature on VCRs and DVD recorders just become useless for 3 weeks in March and a week in November from now on?

Mine also changed this morning, but when I changed it manually, I noticed there was an option for Daylight Savings which had been set to 'Auto.' The instructions said the VCR sets the clock using the DST information broadcast in the signal when set to 'Auto.' So the signal being transmitted is wrong.

If you choose 'On,' the VCR adjusts the clock for Daylight Saving Time automatically, so I changed it to 'On.' One problem with this, though, is that the initial clock setting at the factory was 12 AM, Jan 1, 2003. So, it may, in fact, always be a problem since they didn't know about the new dates back then.

But I'm sure if I buy a new one, they'll probably change the dates for Daylight Saving again, so I'm not bothering with it.

It seems to me that the TV stations could replace or update their equipment that transmits the time signal, but it may be most of them just don't care.

Yep, my VCR was set to the old DST settings. Instead of recording something today from 1-3 like I set it for, I got what was on from 2-4. Not too thrilled about it.

DVRs are usually updated at the headend of the cable/satellite company. So I can't imagine there would be any problems. Even if I had a VCR it only takes about 20 seconds to go in and adjust the time manually. I don't really see the big deal.
