Daylight Time

Mark your calendars for both the traditional daylight time ending and the actual daylight time ending. There is always a lot of confusion (both within the equipment and by the operators of the equipment) and you can expect to see every variation of power errors including staying on day power an hour late, going on day power an hour early, operating with night power an hour into sunrise, etc. The problems will be more common at smaller stations & less likely at the stations that still have an engineering department. Happy hunting!

That's next Sunday morning (November 7) at 2:00 AM local time in the U.S.

BTW, Europe just went off of DST tonight.

That why I said this : Mark your calendars for both the traditional daylight time ending (Oct 31) and the actual daylight time ending (Nov 7). Much equipment still uses the old software that reflects the 'last Sunday in October' guideline.

I know that TV stations the Memphis area apparently didn't update their time signals after the digital transition. My VCR changed last Sunday.

There is a station, with towers and a studio (looks more like a shed) in St. Petersburg (yet licensed to Tampa)--------- WTIS 1110 that is supposed to be still (until Sunday 7 Oct) signing on at 0745 in the morning and 6:45 and today is the 4th day that no one there has awakened and realized that the time switch hasn't taken place yet; they are signing on at 0645 and likewise signing off one hour early.

If anyone catches them, they are 10,000 watts, slightly directional (no huge nulls) and program religion and infomercials. The infomercials usually don't start until 0900.

The sad thing is, on a station with no "pre-sunrise" license (strictly time based power switching), there's no need for daylight time anyway. The sun rises and sets at the same time regardless of what the clock says. But this does present some good opportunities for DX.

WTIS 1110 is strictly daytime (no pre-sunrise authority)due to WBT 1110 Charlotte, one of the very few out of state stations that usually comes in well here, usually with no or little Cuban interference.

Even here in St. Pete where I am WTIS's daytime signal (10,000 watts) is strong, but not strong enough to totally block out WBT in Charlotte, I was listening when the "computer in a closet" station signed on at 0645 and WBT was plainly heard in the background until around 7:20. Would be interesting to know if anyone in north Florida, Florida's east coast or south Georgia might be able to hear WTIS competing with WBT for the next few mornings.

The programming at that time is stricly religious; their vitamin and colon cleanse commercials start later in the day. (btw- no surprise here, but this station normally doesn't even show up in the ratings.)
