A few of the stations were the first I've heard them in the daytime. An example would be WGNR in Anderson IN. 1470 isn't a frequency I tune.

I must be off.

I see what you mean about 'some winter skywave', Gelp, what with those Akron and Cleveland stations being loud. I'm wondering if that mid-winter anomaly stuff is reciprocal. It probably is, but the engineers here would know better.

Does winter skywave on AM have a general start and stop date? Something to do with available daylight? The farthest catch I ever heard here was in late November, and the most solid (half-hour) catch was one Mid-February.

For example yesterday between 5-6 PM WBBR 1130, New York
came blasting into Pittsburgh here as strong as local.

I'm about 75 miles west of Icangelp & much of what he hears is also here. Let me fill in the "nothing" freqs :

540 WKFN Clarksville,TN
600 WMT Cedar Rapids,IA
750 WNDZ Portage,IN
830 weak ??
870 WMTL Leitchfield,KY
910 something weak but sadly WBAA's IBOC hiss at 100 miles is owning the frequency
990 WITZ Jasper,IN
1030 WNVR near Chicago
1060 WFNI IBOC hiss
1120 KMOX
1130 WERI Eaton,OH / WFNF Brazil,IN cat fight (surprised that WERI is not into Cincy)
1140 weak??
1180 WOWO IBOC hiss
1200 WOWO IBOC hiss
1520 WSVX Shelbyville,IN (local--strong)
1540 WMYJ Martinsville (semi-local strong)
1550 WMDH New Castle,IN

Unless otherwise mentioned, the signals are weak and the IBOC hiss is strong enough to be a deal breaker. 400' inverted V at 180' above ground with Drake R8 at 11:30AM local time.

Unusual conditions last night: able to hear WILL on night time power of 180 watts north of Chicago. Pretty decent signal.

Does WOWO usually come in during the day in Cincinnati?

WOWO can be heard in Lexington, KY (75 miles SOUTH of Cincinnati) at high noon on a good radio.

When 1130 in Eaton, Ohio was WCTM (owned and operated by Stan Coning), I used to pick it up on a regular basis here in the northeast suburbs of Greater Cincinnati. I'm not sure what WERI is operating with now in terms of power, antenna location etc. At last check, it was duplicating the output of WKFI 1090-AM in Wilmington and WBZI 1500-AM in Xenia. When it was WCTM, the station's studios, transmitter and towers were located in Glenwood on U.S. 35, just east of Eaton.

Radioman148.

I live on the west side of greater Cincinnati, and WIND is indeed a daily visitor, but not on just any old radio. I'm about 14 - 16 miles from the WKRC transmitter site in northern Kentucky. WKRC is directional days & protects KSD to the west.

I use my Tecsun PR-D5 & a Drake R8B coupled with a Wellbrook ALA 1530S antenna with rotor, and yes, WKRC has to be nulled a bit.

I think if I were to go outside and use one of my ultralights, I could also hear WIND during the day.

KR4BD & the Cincinnati Kid answered the WOWO question, although I wonder if they also think WOWO's day signal is not as strong as it used to be.

I work on the east side of greater Cincinnati, outside the I-275 loop. There are a number of stations heard there, and not heard at my home location, but I guess that's true of any big city.

From where I am - basically the Madeira/Kenwood area - WOWO's daytime signal might be down a bit from what it was many years ago, but not too much.

I can't say for sure if it is weaker in Lexington, But I can say that the ambient noise levels are sure higher on the AM band these days. At night WOWO is definitely not as strong since they got their wings clipped back to 9.8 KW several years back....
