Daytime only stations in Alaska

I have never been to Alaska but it sure sound interesting. Considering it is dark much of the 24 hour period in the winter what happens to day timer only stations in the winter? It is my understanding that it is only light 3 hours a day so it seems like for daytime only stations it is hardly worth being on the air during the winter. With that like of thinking it my understanding that in the summer there is only a few hours of dark so does that mean daytime only stations are on the air much of the 24 hour period?
