Daytime veteran Beverlee McKinsey, remembered....

Soap Opera Digest is reporting that Beverlee McKinsey, who acted in several soaps (Love Is a Many Splendored Thing, 1970; Another World, 1972/1972-1980 (2 different roles); Texas, 1980-1981; Guiding Light, 1984-1992; General Hospital, 1994), died May 2 in Los Angeles from complications after a kidney transplant. She was 72.

McKinsey was nominated four years in a row, 1977 to 1980, for Daytime Emmy lead actress awards but was passed over all 4 times. She was also nominated six times at the Soap Opera Awards, 2 of which she won as 'favorite villainess' for her work on Another World (as 'Iris', one of the show's most notable characters).

Scott, Beverlee's son, survives her; he directed at Guiding Light during her tenure there and went on to direct for General Hospital.

McKinsey's passing comes the day after the 19th anniversary of the death of Douglass Watson, who played 'Iris's father 'Mac Cory' on Another World; as well as 2 days before the 44th anniversary of Another World's debut (May 4).

An upcoming issue of Soap Opera Digest will pay tribute to McKinsey, according to the magazine.

There was only one Alexandra Spaulding--and that
was Beverlee McKinsey. Her scenes with Jay Hammer
(Fletcher) were priceless as well.

GL used to be my favorite soap, but the loss of the
likes of Ms. McKinsey, Michael Zaslow, Jerry Ver Dorn,
Peter Simon, Ellen Parker, and Maureen Garrett have
long since soured me on the show.

And Ms. McKinsey's work as Iris Carrington is every
bit as classic.

And you wonder why people don't watch soaps anymore.

Looks like I was right the first time; most sources are saying Beverlee McKinsey was, indeed, 72.

The Soap Opera Digest issue I referenced up the thread is now out on newsstands.

Meanwhile, there are now 2 different YouTube videos paying tribute to McKinsey:

This one shows mostly her work on Texas and Another World...

...while this shorter one shows video/stills of McKinsey on Guiding Light...
