Dayton Broadcasters Hall Of Fame Website

I wanted to let you know that the Dayton Broadcasters Hall Of Fame now has a new website.

It's: www.daytonbroadcasthalloffame.com

I volunteered a while back to put together a new site for the Hall and we got it on the internet a few days ago. Not all of the pictures are up yet (we still have to retrieve some jpegs), not every link has been established. But over the next few weeks, I will be working to get all inductee pictures up. And, please remember...I'm a Disc Jockey, not a Web Designer! (OK...OK...I'll try to keep my day job!)

One goal I have with this website, is to make it a great deal more interactive...with pictures, audio, even video clips from our inductees work, as well as for significant events in Dayton radio history. So, I'd like to ask anyone who was ever in or collected such material about Dayton radio to contact me if you have something of which you might be willing to allow us to copy and post. I would be specifically interested in audio from WING in the 50's, 60's or 70's. WHIO from any era since 1935, WAVI/WDAO-FM, WONE/WTUE,
WVUD, WDJX/Xenia-Beavercreek, Ohio (of which it seems like almost no airchecks exist), etc. And, I'm sure as the days and years go by, more stations will be added to my list.

I have a few airchecks and video clips up...but this is just a start. (I do have about a dozen more things I have already to post. And, a few of them may be a surprise.)

To our TV folks...if you have some tape in a personal collection you might be willing to copy, or have us copy along these lines, I'd also welcome hearing from you. Whether it's from WHIO, WDTN (or WLWD), WKEF, whichever...I'd love a call or an e-mail.

To all inductees, or their families. I have not had the opportunity yet to contact all of you. I've just gotten to a few people whose phone numbers I knew. As time continues, I will be attempting to make contact, but if you'd care to contact me, I'd love hearing from you.

You see, another plan in the short-term future is to add a Dayton Radio Historical Media Page. I would even welcome submissions from broadcasters not yet inductees. Certainly it would make good listening and viewing to have such media from you posted on that page.

The Dayton Broadcasters Hall Of Fame is non-profit entity.

You may reach me by the information below. And, thanks!

An update: I have now launched a Hall Of Fame picture page, with some photographs of recent events that involved Hall Of Fame inductees (and some broadcasting notables not enshrined as of yet...you'll certainly remember their names, though.)

I hope to launch the "Media Page" this coming weekend. I will probably not have everything in my possession up on it
yet, but I'll get as much of it on there as I can. There will be a bunch of pictures and audio, even some things that the sales-types will enjoy.

My thanks to "Engineer Dave" and the folks at WING Radio, who permitted me a "peek" into their photo and clipping archives today. They were kind enough to let me borrow some of this stuff for a few days to scan and convert some of the articles and photos they had from both WING and Z-93's early days. (OK, I know I'm teasing you here, but there's some personality photos of WING jocks taken in the old "showcase" street-level studio in the Talbott Tower downtown, photos of a few events, "profiles" of personalities not only at WING & Z, but other area stations as well. All that and a few real surprises (how 'bout a WSMK sales contract from 1935?). (Truth be told, there was even a picture of me in that box from my days at the station in the late 80's. I still had some hair then. Sorry, I don't have the guts to put it on the page. Maybe some years from now, though...)

There's also complete audio of a Jack Wymer "Man On The Street" broadcast from 1965, commemorating (of all things), WHIO's 30th anniversary. It includes interviews with the late Lou Emm and Don Wayne, among other Cox notables at the time. And, that's just part of what you'll find on the page.

And, I'm not done yet. I have some scoping to do on WHIO's 50th anniversary broadcast to post. I'm going to post edited clips of WAVI's "Computer Talk" and "Auto Talk". Some other folks are promising me some gems as well. A gentleman who will be fully credited and linked on the website is sending me some airchecks of WING (1966), WONE (1967) and WTUE (during their Top 40 era.) And, thanks to my colleague Steve Kerrigan, we will also post some WTUE "Kerrigan and Christopher" bits, too. There's more coming, as well.

Coming soon: a page with video clips from the most recent induction ceremony.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed. I'm always looking for more, so if you have anything you think I might be interested in, call me at the station: (937) 259-2074.

Just wanted to let you all know the "Dayton Broadcasting Media Page" has been launched at the Dayton Broadcasters Hall Of Fame website. It's far from being "done". I'll have more pictures and stuff up there over the next week or two.

Some of the audio excerpts may take a minute or two to load. Just be patient if you click on a bigger file. Some airchecks are around 5 minutes in length...others may go about 15. I have tried to retain whereever possible, a good portion of the commercial matter (since some people like to hear old commercials and commercial jingles) and station imaging as well.

If you have anything you'd care to contribute, contact me at the e-mail address on the Media Page.

The Dayton Broadcasters Hall Of Fame website is: www.daytonbroadcasthalloffame.com
